I think Disney will keep plugging away with the viral stuff for a bit since it seems to be working. Incorporate the Muppets into the 'mainstream' that way, then I'm sure when the Movie gets closer we'll see a lot more...

But I'm glad to hear they've brought some of the Pixar guys over to give the script a once over. Only good can come of that! :)

You know... I'm quite a bit disappointed again by Disney... they "claimed" there was going to be a huge push of the Muppet franchise this year, but besides the Volunteer for Park tickets, there really hasn't been that much exposure...

Oh well... maybe next year with the new movie in the horizon...

I hear you... :monkey2

:lol!!

Don't like it! :yuck
But thanks for bumping the thread!! :wave

I just think it's a twisted take on a children's TV show. Showed a dude at work and he thought it was pretty cool.

It's a great drawing!

But I don't like it either. And is that Bert's skull??? Who are the others?

Walter the Muppet Revealed!

Well, here he is. That guy over there is Walter, the new Muppet character who will be featured in the new Muppet movie, which is now filming and which will be in theaters in just 415 days. That gives us plenty of time to buzz with anticipation, and to speculate and complain and laugh and cry and spin around in circles and get dizzy and fall down.

Walter can be seen, along with the rest of the Muppets and the movie’s co-writer Jason Segel, in a two-page “First Look” photo spread in the brand-new issue of Entertainment Weekly (the one with Harry Potter making a tough-guy face on the cover). You can click here to see the whole thing. There’s not really a full-fledged article to go along with it, but there is some accompanying text with quotes from Segel and director James Bobin. So what can we glean from this?

That’s what Walter looks like. What do you think? I have to say, he’s not what I expected. When we heard that there would be a new puppet character who dreams of joining the Muppets, I was picturing something less cartoony and more distinctly humanoid. Walter doesn’t even have a nose. (Then how does he smell? I suppose that depends on whether he’s bathed recently. HA!) But if the rumors are true about Michael Cera providing the voice of Walter, I can easily imagine Cera’s voice coming out of this guy’s fuzzy face.
The title (for now) is The Muppets. After all our confusion as to whether this thing would be called The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time or The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made or Muppets Spinning Around in Circles and Getting Dizzy and Falling Down, the Entertainment Weekly article refers to it simply as The Muppets. I won’t be surprised if it changes, and I’m kind of hoping it will, because that’s a pretty bland title… and it could lead to a lot of confusion. If the movie disappoints, we’ll find ourselves saying, “Oh, I love the Muppets! But I really hate The Muppets.“ Then again, if the goal is to relaunch the franchise to introduce it to a completely new generation of fans, the simple title might work.
Amy Adams and Chris Cooper are in it. We pretty much already knew that, but it’s nice to have it reported by a reputable source. (Or at least to the extent that EW can be called reputable when they put Twilight on their cover every other month.)
Walter is us. I had assumed Jason Segel’s character Gary, the human lead who’s described as a Muppet fan, would be written as the character we geeks could identify with. ‘Cause we like the Muppets too. But I’m not so sure now, with Segel commenting, “Walter has a little bit of a self-confidence issue because he’s the only person like him that he’s seen aside from the Muppets. His dream is to meet the Muppets and be around people who are like him.” Is it just me, or does that resonate with your Muppet fandom? We lovers-and-dreamers-and-you types tend to recognize the Muppets as kindred spirits, and it sounds like Walter is that type of fan, taken a step further. It’ll be interesting to see how they play things, though, as few Muppet productions have even acknowledged that the Muppets have fans. Presumably Gary and Walter are fans because they grew up watching The Muppet Show like we did, so I’m curious to see how meta things get.

Gonzo likes Twizzlers. But then again, who doesn’t?
And now I think I think I’ve written about as much commentary as can be written about one photograph. But it’s exciting to see Kermit and Piggy and Fozzie and those guys getting hype in a major publication, isn’t it? My cautious optimism is burning pretty brightly right about now. How’s yours?

Glad to see no stupid Pepe Prawn! They seemed to want to shoehorn that retarded character into every post-Henson Muppets production, and I'm glad to see them sticking with the original crew plus this new guy in this pic.

Gonna try to develop no expectations whatsoever about this. Frankly, the franchise has nowhere to go but up, and I know the creators have the comic chops to pull something good off, but who knows? Of course, I've always got the TV show and old movies, so it doesn't really matter if this ends up sucking.

Sorry man. I'll get optimistic when I get a real reason to feel optimistic. And that means a quality Muppet product, which I haven't seen (beyond collectibles) over the last 20-some-odd years.

More Muppet Movie Celebrity Cameos And Set Photos

Forget recruiting a respected filmmaker like David Fincher or Steven Spielberg – if you really want A-listers to flock to your production, tell them it features a bunch of maniacal sock puppets and is titled The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made.

Emily Blunt and Ricky Gervais are the latest additions to the cast of the upcoming Muppet Movie, which is currently shooting in and around Los Angeles and (as evidenced by a handful of new set photos) will feature Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and the rest of Jim Henson’s classic creations.

Lots of celebrities will cameo in Jason Segel’s Muppet venture, which he co-scripted and is starring in as well. The premise behind the film is simple (the Muppets reunite to save their old production studio), but the plot is foremost a vehicle to showcase the characters’ breed of silly jokes and irreverent sense of humor. It’s also an excuse for Hollywood types to take a break from playing serious roles or interacting with green screens and instead goof-off with the likes of Gonzo or Animal for a scene or two.

Besides Blunt and Gervais (whose involvement was confirmed by Heat Vision), the new Muppet Movie will also feature cameos from Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Zach Galifianakis, Donald Glover, Ed Helms, John Krasinski, Paul Rudd, Eric Stonestreet, Danny Trejo, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and apparently even Lady Gaga (appropriate enough, really).

Main cast members include Segel as a devoted Muppet fan, Amy Adams as Segel’s girlfriend, Chris Cooper as an evil oil mogul, and Rashida Jones, who’ll take a break from the awkward comedy style of Parks and Recreation
