who knows if they could do it. maybe they could.

There is a lot of room for HT to take an existing story and make it their own through toys in the meantime.

I could probably never afford this, but Starshiptroopers, Robert A. Heinlein's original novel incorporates robotic armor and alien bugs.

If HT was able to get a license for the book, and ignore all the concepts used in the film versions, they could effectively design how it all looked themselves without having to worry about creating a brand name.

J/K, I can see the wisdom of building on an existing brand, less work to build up a fan base. But that's exactly what I am was talking about, once HT used up all the characters/vehicle etc from the book, what then? with a brand/property of their own, they would have no restrictions but the ones they impose on themselves.

Sorry if someone mentioned this, I just skimmed the posts in this thread, but Hot Toys did the Goeman movie in Japan right? And then the figures to coincide with that, so thats pretty original.

from what I understand HT co-financed the movie. I don't know how much HT get to participate in the design process. Goemon is not a new creation, its a classic japanese story that's been around for ages in japan.

anybody wanna throw in some theories/suggestions as to ht's next innovation? we already have life-like, poseable eyes in the PERS system. what's next?

i'd like to see "real" hair instead of sculpted. the realism of a ht sculpt and paint app, no matter how awesome, is always halted dead in its tracks by the one-look-and-u-know-its-not-a-real-person fakeness of sculpted hair. i know most of us are against doll-like rooted hair, but i was just thinking, a candidate like the tdk joker could have fibre-based hair and still avoid the doll feel. and if ht came up with some kind of new technology, it could look pretty convincing!

Agreed tylerdurden, but sometimes sculpted hair is the way to go. Real/rooted hair aint gonna cut it sometimes.

It usually doesn't work well for male figures.

My first HT figures were AVP Scar and Celtic...
amazing figures back in the day, but a _____ to assemble...


At one point I had all 4 AVP Preds, all the Marines/Ripley and 2 AVP Aliens plus Grid...
all them are gone now...

not to argue, but when has Hot Toys EVER used up all the characters from a book or movie? They would leave a line based on a 1 man play incomplete.

sign... yeah, HT always shows up strong and finish lousy.

perhaps before hoping HT create something of their own, I should hope they finish a line. On that note, I have to say any toy line that doesn't include a villain is an automatic fail. Where is the iron monger, HT? BTW, is Goemon a finished line? I didn't watch the movie, was there any other character worth a figure treatment?

My first Hot Toys figures are: Rambo III, First Blood: Rambo Part 2 & First Blood: Col. Trautman..
I am a Rambo fan, and am looking to complete my Rambo collection first (still lacking 3 HT Rambo figures) before I buy other HT figures.

It's like every release of Hot Toys is a sell-out (save a few - HT Abe Sapien, HT Two-Face?) as they do deliver superior sculpting & life-like clothing & accessories. I would go broke if I went out to buy all HT figures, so I am controlling it as much as I can.

My first HT figure was OC Batman from TDK. Before that I collected Sideshow, Medi, DCD. Since then I have like 25 HT figures and 3 from other companies.

I was only planning on buying just Iron Man HT but once that Terminator with rubber skin came out, it was all over for me.
What's shipping like in Ireland then? Is the Forbidden Planet in Dublin the best place to get stuff from?

Well when I said Forbidden Planet I meant the .co.uk website, so presumably my ED-209 shipped from an FP warehouse in the UK. Incidentally I wouldn't order from .co.uk again as they leaked my card details last time and someone made an illegal transaction. As for Forbidden planet dublin, I only go there a few times a year now if I happen to be in shopping with my g/f. They don't stock much in the way of Hot Toys. I've gotten the Robocop 3 figure there and thats it. Everything else I order online from Toys2 or Sideshow.

I just accept the shipping costs. On some smaller things I order, such as for the Hasbro Star Wars range, it can cost almost as much as the item itself which is a bummer but more often than not I want the thing bad enough that I just accept it. I was always used to paying elevated prices in FPdublin anyway, this way I usually pay the normal price they're all paying in the US and the shipping only brings it up to the cost it'd likely be if I bought it at specialist retail here in Ireland.

okay another innovation that i'd like to see is for the muscle bodies. i've said this before: i really hate visible joints on 1/6 figures. nothing screams "toy" more blatantly than joints. ruins the look, especially if the character has an exposed body/limbs. the recent wolverine is a pretty good step forward, but still not enough for me.

rubber muscle bodies like the dutch schaeffer do the job in hiding the joints but articulation suffers. what i'd like to see is a new technology that solves the issues of muscle bodies while maintaining the visual aesthetic of a jointless human physique.

As elite as people would like to think of themselves as, 1/6 figures will always be toy action figures, no matter how much you pay.

Don't like joints, buy statues.

As for HT and their prices, yea they could be cheaper. They know we will pay what they ask. Rambo 3 came out he was $80, and to this day is till top notch. If he was offered today , he would be at least $160.

Right now they have no competition for the perfection of the licenses they offer. Yea Enterbay does nice stuff too, but they have no major licenses.

Just like Brother Eamon...my first HT was the Iron Man Mark III.....at first i really don't care for any 1/6 figures....but when i saw the online pics for the Iron Man Mark III i was intrigued...so i ended up spraying a pretty penny to get my very first 1/6 action figure....and suffice to say....it really caught me hook, line, and sinker......i fell in love with it straight away....

The next HT product i got was the Dark Knight DX02....and to me (being the fan of Batman since i was in diapers) it was sweeter than the Iron Man Mark III..... so...here i am.....2 figures of HT in my possession...and i am hungry for more.....i scoped out other famous brands that produces 1/6 action figure...but none leaves an impression like HT does....so although i intend to broaden my action figure collection by getting other products....i think that most of my collection will be based on HT....

im currently placing the HT Blade figure on pre-order....i know that probably for most of you HT collectors out there getting the Blade figure doesn't seem to be on top your list.......but im somewhat of a fan of Blade...and i believe getting the figure would pay homage to me as being a fan.......

As for future endeavor's im really looking forward to HT's Avatar line as well as their Iron Man 2.....well i guess that's it.....lookin forward to regularly keepin an eye for this forum as well as contributing whenever possible........

A wasnt into 1:6 figure much until a friend of mine got a HT Bank Robber Joker, and I thought that was the coolest thing.

My 1st into the hobby was HT's Icon Marlon Brando. Huge fan of Brando and the figure still one of my favorites among all Hot Toys' work.

Looking forward to receiving HT's The Comedian next. I think DX Batman and Aldo Raine are after that for me.

I'm really looking forward to the release of Aldo Raine and the T-800. Besides those, I'm really interested in the Avatar and Clash Of The Titans lines they announced and I'm looking forward to see pictures of those lines. Especially Avatar! I can't wait to see how the Na'vi are going to look!!

Theres so many heavy hitters coming out this year. A lot of long awaited grail figures getting crossed off the wish list. Chris Reeve Superman was a pipe dream for a lot of of collectors. Only Hot Toys could make it happen. So glad they went back and picked up some classic properties. And they say they are planning on other classics too

Oh Aldo is a must buy for quite a few of us. Is it the character or the figure we love the most?

I too am very curious about both Avatar and Clash of the Titans. Titans is a no brainer as I know I'm gonna love the movie.
And though I loved Avatar too, I'm gonna wait and see how the figure/s look. I would like the girl to be made first just becuase she was a great character. But I did feel that the Naavi were a bit over designed.

I am lucky enough to already have both Blade and the Comedian already.
They represented the last of my art for Hot Toys deals.

Blade really really blew me a way. He rocks...especially if you like Blade II movie. Best head sculpt so far too I think.
The Comedian is a fine figure too but not my fav. He could be bulkier.
He looks really good with the others on display though and if you lov eyour movie icons, he's a must have I think.

I now have some money in paypal from selling the stuff I listed earlier so am now wondering what's the next one I should order, Leonidas, Tony Stark or Aldo. Depends who's getting released first. Anybody know about that?
