43 was the correct answer. The US premiere was the first premiere, and it happened on November 21st, 1931. Karloff was born on November 23rd, 1887, making him 43 at the time of the premiere.

According to https://www.sideshowtoy.com/behindtheshow/?p=378 , sideshow says that the answer was 44? I'm confused here. Any chance that the contest could be fixed, and I could be awarded the frankenstein statue? :)

Hey that's WRONG. The answer IS 43.

Film premiere date:

https://us.imdb.com/title/tt0021884/releaseinfo

Karloff birth date:

https://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000472/

We got our trivia from this Boris Karloff trivia on IMDB's bio page for him:

https://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000472/bio (scroll down to the Trivia section)

There were many many people who answered 44 - it wasn't like there was only one person who answered correctly, which would have made us suspicious of our answer. :peace

Still wrong!

Yes, but your same source gives the actual dates for the movie opening and his birth, which would put him at 43. He was basically 44, and most people would just subtract 1887 from 1931 to get 44, but the correct answer is still 43! Sorry!! We are huge monster fans after all!

I also got my information from IMDB. Frankenstein premiered 2 days before his birthday, which would put him at 43 at the premiere. :lecture

I understand completely, I was just trying to make a point. I took "premiere" to mean the first public showing of the film, which is correct under the standard dictionary definition of the term.

https://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=premiere

No hard feelings. :peace

As lcummins said, we're all just big movie fans here.

Clearly, that section of IMDB is wrong. Simple math proves it wrong.

...we just thought people would be excited that they don't have to wait 6 months for him ;) :duff

I love it!!! I wish any new announcement was for a stock item rather than a pre-oder. :rock

Hey, it wouldn't be spooktacular without controversy. Remember the big LOTR trivia controversy from last year? :D

BTW Dusty, are the pics for the 1/4 SSE Phantom actual pics or just grey scale of the colored version?

Will there be only one new figure annoucement per day? Getting impatient here....

I had 43 as well based on a premier date of November 21. I figured the standard answer would have been 44 so it must have been a trick question.

I got my info from a movie site aswell which claimed the movie premiered on december 4 1931. Which would make him 44, 1 month after his birthday.

Ditto here. Did they have the premier after the movie was already released? Hmm...

So there could be 2 possible answers....the date the movie first appeared on screen, or the date on which a premiere showing was held. In one case he's 43, a few days before his birthday, the other he's 44, 1 month after his birthday. Nice trivia contest. Maybe it should have been more specific! :banghead

Right, but if the movie was released in November, then that would be the first public peformance, which is what "premiere" means under the dictionary definition I linked to earlier.

It's all semantics at this point anyway. LOL. I hope C. Stumpenhaus enjoys his/her prize. It was a long shot to win even with a right answer.

How do you enter the Scavenger Hunt?

I've found two of the clues and I also found another but i'm not sure if I was meant to have found that one already.

So once I've gotten all the clues, how/where do I enter?

I don't want to find them and have to hunt about to work how to enter! :google :horror

Cheers,

Psycho Cenobite :banana

Don't you know it - but I hope you know we don't do it on purpose!! What are the odds that his birthday was so close the premiere of the movie!? :google (BTW, there's no specific date of the Frank premiere on his bio page so, going by just that page, the answer is 44 - final answer :) )

They are the actual pictures of the actual production piece since it's in-stock.

Oh well...

Oh well, I guess since over 100 people answered 44 that must be the correct answer. Sorry Dusty, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, it's just that when some of us get the right answer and then we're told that most got something else so that must be right, it just takes away some of the fun of Spooktacular. I don't really care that I didn't win because I already own a SSE Frankenstein 1/4, but it is the principal of the thing! We used to submit answers via email and you were allowed to submit more than one if you discovered you sent the wrong answer or something, but with the new web contest form, you are only allowed to answer once! So keeping that in mind, we try to submit the correct answer, not the lowest common denominator answer.
