Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

You have to look back a few pages. It was last years Christmas card...and it was bad@ss:clap

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

I was so gutted I never got chance to do that this year, well last year.
But as soon as I can get a wee red bulb and do the tiny detail I am definitely gonna do some photo sessions....

I borrowed loads of cool customs of Rogue Trooper to do that dio...

That dio was nearly as big as the Mois Eisley shoot... I have got to do another dio like the Mos one it was great fun.

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

Right fellow knitter and basket weavers... humm wrong forum....

Well some chums have expressed a wee petit peu of interest in the booths but alas as they are made from one of the heaviest materials known to man...( No thats not one of Darth Impoors trouser bricks its MDF... )Medium Density Fibreboard so sending one of the enormous lumps half way around the world is a crazy idea (but I would love to do it)

Sooooo...... what I have decided to do is a step by step D.I.Y. Booth for beginners....

So all you need's a strong heart and a nerve of steel, Viva Las Vegas, Viva Las Vegas, turnin' day into nighttime,Turnin' night into daytime, If you see it once, You'll never be the same again ow sorry have not my pills this morning...

Right so the idea is that its gonna be like a cookery guide... materials, techniques, tools, special pants I'm gonna keep on the run, I'm gonna have me some fun, If it costs me my very last dime, If I wind up broke up well, I'll always remember that I had a swingin' time, I'm gonna give it everything I've got, Lady luck please let the dice stay hot, Let me shoot a seven with every shot, Viva Las Vegas....nurse....

So whats first.....first I will draw up plans and all measurement will be in cm.... why? Well I think its jolly unfair that our American cousins can get cheaper dollies than us and and they get them first... I may even use mm to really upset themmmmm....

Plans for the front will be up later.... but please dont start building yet!! as I need to make sure I get it right

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

Ok so first thing is you will need some MDF of different thicknesses....

you will need:
front: (you will be making 2 arches)
6mm or 12mm sheet 1200mm x 600 (2'x4')

booth:
you will need to make another 2 arches for the curve and a back
I suggest thicker mdf for this so maybe the 22mm
22mm 2 sheets 1200mm x 600 (2'x4')

for the inside curve I used a flexible mdf it is flat one side and has lots of groves cut in the back
38-econokore-poplar-plywood-face-32-slat-length-x-48-i23306.jpg

Curve:
1 sheet 5 or 6mm thick I think. 1200mm x 600 (2'x4')

and thats it for wood......

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

So once you have the wood get the 6mm 1200x600 sheet and cut in half... so you have 2 600x600.

then clamp or screw them together and draw a vertical centre line down the middle. Measure a 56cm x 45 cm square working from the middle and bottom edge but dont cut that out yet

Any questions then just ask

I'll have you know, Mr. Dorgmal sir, my trouser bricks just happen to be light and fluffy. Please retract that statement or I'll have to take this to a level I don't think any of us wants to see to prove my innocence:dump.

And BTW, you'd be proud of me. I have finally left my self-imposed bubble and have my 1st non-ANH figure: Bespin Han. A new head, bod, and boots and this is actually one of my favorite figs now. The "real" Bespin Han will be hidden under a 2nd Honor Guard outfit & helmet, but I digress....

The tips on the Cantina are great. Perhaps one day when I actually finish 1 or 3 of my own projects, this could be a fun build.

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

hahha nope I will not as I know for a fact that your brown bricks were used as ballast for ocean going spanish armada ships.... light and fluffy paahhhh.

top news about moving on to ESB... :)

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

:lol ANH: the gateway episode.

Great tut Dorgs, I've been thinking of trying to build one out of lighter/cheaper materials, i.e. mcdonald's cups and toilet paper! :banana

Well... not really (you must have thought I was serious, didn't you?), I've really been thinking about using foam core, and thin cardboard (for the bendy parts)

Wonder if it'd work... Perhaps I'll try it once I find time to work on some of my other projects a little more.

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

Yeah foam core would work but you would have to laminate it to stop it from warping. The inside curve I wouldn't use foam core as it does not bend that well unless its thin, you would have to score the back. You could use corrugated cardboard. you would have to coat it all in PVA glue before you plaster it at the end

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

waiting for a wee red light to go behind Greedo, but using a blue to see if it looks ok... got to make the plaque thing next.
