Finn the janitor is a waste of space. He accomplished nothing. Trash.

Poe. Trash.

Little Rey lifted some rocks and beat up the red lobster guards with no training. The dudes that were there to protect Snoke, so they should be the best fighters available, killed by two kids with no skills. Trash.

Phasma can't shoot or fight. Trash.

Luke can't fight, knows nothing, did nothing. Trash.

Chewie is 800 years old and takes orders from a 20 year old girl. Did nothing. Trash.

Snoke...who is he? What does he want? What is his goal ...why Rey? Can see everything? Apparently not. Trash.

The first order. Trash

The rebels. Trash.

BB9. Trash.

R2D2. Wakes up from coma again shows video...goes back to sleep. Trash.

Yoda is the new Pa Kent. Trash.

This is the only review everyone needs to read. Not trash.

I’m going for my 2nd viewing tonight I will be alot less apprehensive now so lets see how this movie holds up.

SW is the only franchise that gives me butterflies in my stomach and turns me into an emotional nervous wreck on day of release lol.

One day it will be the death of you

Phantom Menace is better than this. It's not even hyperbole.

All those shots of the goofy alien creatures doing little jokey things for the baby audience was worse than anything in Episode I. There's that moment where that horse thing takes a nasty **** in front of Jar Jar's face or whatever, but not every scene was filled with crap like that. In fact, other than Jar Jar, there aren't even a lot of jokes in comparison.

Phantom Menace didn't have Obi-Wan extracting milk from a ****ing 10 foot phallic creature. Or Qui-Gon spewing "ur momma" jokes to Darth Maul. Every scene there's some kind of stupid Marvelesque quip, Episode I didn't have that. I'll take the thrilling podracing sequence over Finn and the Asian chick riding on goofy ass horse things or whatever that sequence was (like Rogue One, the night sequences were murky and dull as ****). Other than the midichlorian thing, the Phantom Menace never **** on Star Wars as a whole. This movie does. Every piece of dialogue from Luke, Yoda and Kylo Ren is a dig at the lore and franchise as a whole. Then the imagery? Name a shot from the Phantom Menace that's worse than Carrie Fisher blowing up only to survive and fly to safety in space.

Phantom Menace is considered dog **** by people, no denying it, but the Last Jedi is regurgiated dog **** that was eaten by another dog and vomited back out again. It's way worse.

Nobody is looking to have a pity party here, that's being a bit dramatic. Star Wars, for me, died a long time ago. We're all posting our responses to the crap we saw the other night. Don't worry, the criticism will die down and fade away. People on here wanted to know my thoughts on it and I gave it to them raw and in the moment. I'll forget about this **** by next year and fade away just like all the other movies and toy discussions on here.

Oh the irony of calling my comment dramatic. Have you been reading this thread? Do you read your own comments for that matter? Regurgitated dog ****? No, no one is being dramatic at all. Just me.

Luminous beings are we not this crude DiFabio matter. :lol

The fandom's overreaction to this film is definitely messing with my zen thing, man.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

This was even worse than the Force Awakens. :slap

After seeing this movie...

My thoughts are we should stop spending so much time and money on movies about people living in space.. and actually go into space for real.

Hell, with the cash we spend on making and watching movies the last 35 years, we could have populated the solar system by now.

How dumb of a species are we, really! [emoji23]

After 30 years, the official Disney canon Luke learned nothing, did nothing, and went out like a weak, blue milk drinking little old man stuck on an island with slugs...what a legend.

It's kind of like the Dark Knight Rises, only with decades of build up and much more disappointment.

Finn the janitor is a waste of space. He accomplished nothing. Trash.

Ha ha, my wife and I were disappointed that Finn didn't die. It's like they wasted all of this time setting up this big moment of self sacrifice only to have him saved by Rose and making the situation worse. It would have completed his arc nicely, like he was born and raised to serve the first order but instead became a hero and saved the rebellion. They clearly don't know what to do with his character and are setting them all up for some weird Rey/Kylo/Finn/Rose and Poe? Love Pentagon.

Also topless Kylo Ren!!!! WTF?!?!? Hot Toys Exclusive 2018?

Now which is better:

Maul 3 way fight or TLJ red guards vs the wonder twins?

Easily TPM duel. This was the first time we had seen a 2 on 1 lightsaber fight and also one at that speed. Maul was a cool and fierce enemy and it was shame he bought it. The duel had real stakes and Qui-gon (Obi-wan's master and father figure) died. Obi-wan also used his anger and grief and strayed away from the Jedi way and that recklessness almost got him killed. It was an interesting and good climax to the movie.

Compare that to the wonder twins fight. Ok well before I get into that I really wish they had been twins or siblings ... God damn Rian for teasing us with the idea by having Ben and Rey connecting through force Skype at the same time as Luke and Leia also connecting through force Skype leading to the false conclusion thst perhaps this was a force sensitive twin / sibling connction power thing ... That would have been awesome so naturally it didn't come to pass and Rey is nobody and Snoke did the connection thingy but then he was dead and they were still connected so maybe he didn't argh who knows!

Oh yeh the duel. As much as people praise this part of the movie it sucked for four reasons that really stood out to me: (1) once you have offed the main big bad (Snoke) and you only have henchmen to dispatch, the audience know there are no stakes / no danger to your protagonist antagonist or what ever Rey and Kylo are supposed to be (2) it was sloppy and felt like it had not been well rehearsed especially when compared to the TPM duel which was almost like a dance by lethal competitors at the top of their game (3) Rey was just so overpowered it was lame... She was as good at combat as Kylo (an actual trained force user) and way way better than the lobster men, who I can only guess we're supposed to be the best of the best because they were guarding the supreme leader (4) Rey saved Kylo when he was struggling against his last opponent whereas she was able to get herself out of a similar situation - am I really supposed to believe he is a credible threat to her going forward (she bested him in TFA and now saves him all with just one lesson on how to move some pebbles from Luke).

Apparently Rose now loves Finn? When did that happened?

Yeah, shirtless Kylo was super weird with that huge upper body and a tiny head.

I agree Finn’s death in that manner would’ve been great but Disney seemed hell bent on doing the opposite in this movie of what the audience expected from the build up which I can also respect in a way.

lol @ buff Kylo was that really his upper body the dude is solid if so. :lol

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Disney knows how to deliver spectacle. But the spectacle ultimately felt hollow for what I think are the following reasons:

Visual texture and production design was inconsistent. One may level the charge that I'm being an ultra-conservative fan that won't let them try anything new, but in my opinion, one of the keys to creating this immersive world are visual cues of a very old civilization with *legacy* -- of stratified layers of mature technological artefacts built on a mix of recognizable analog tech and inscrutable energies.

Rogue one killed it in this regard, TLJ not so much.

I think they nailed a WWII-inspired aesthetic in some places, particularly the opening sequence, but veered off into something too glossy and familiar in the casino. You could have conveyed wealth and decadence without making it look like the Atlantis complex in the Bahamas; likewise the music for that setting was way too familiar.

Snoke and Co. were overdone, I felt. It looked too decadent, from the lush gold to the overpowering red-on-red. That may have been more forgivable had they given me something to hold on to in that portion of the narrative. But without any background it felt stylistically flat.

Then the writing was all over the place. They stole liberally from Battlestar Galactica for the game of hyperspace cat-and-mouse, but it felt tonally off for Star Wars tech and space combat. The idea that they could have passed that close to a planet and the First Order would be so incompetent as to engage in the vicinity but not examine the remains of a rebel base for survivors? Cloaking devices or not, that's just sloppy writing.

Speaking of which, the whole consequence-free mutiny aboard the Rebel cruiser (Battlestar Lite) felt like a Saturday morning cartoon. I didn't buy Dern's character as an admiral; an angry guidance counsellor maybe. Way to put Poe in his place. SMH

Had they committed to the mutiny they may have done something bold and different for Star Wars, but instead they pretended to be edgy and went back to status quo where everyone *laughs it off*.

Like so many suicidal acts in this film, the admiral's sacrifice seemed unnecessary. Ever heard of auto-pilot? And why couldn't the First Order scan the cruiser for life-forms? That's an established Star Wars-y thing.

I genuinely thought Leia was killed in combat, the Force-Witchery threw me and I'm really not sure to what end.

The language is problematic. Star Wars has always allowed off-brand phrases to drive the characters -- "...see you in hell" -- "...ain't like dusting crops, boy!" -- but hearing characters say "I'll hold" and "Big-ass door" was too much for me.

Speaking of writing, they started to make Prequel Trilogy mistakes by over-complicating the plot. The whole Rose and Finn sub-plot could have been jettisoned for a leaner movie. Too many characters, too little development.

Expository dialogue weighed the film down in some spots, yet other subplots were simply ejected to be replaced with nothing of substance. There don't seem to be slow builds, no mysteries, I just don't care about the plot because they can't seem to decide what the plot is.

I wrote elsewhere that archetypes are narrative shortcuts, and when used well they're very effective. I cared more about Paige than her sister Rose. Paige was an archetypal war hero sacrificing herself in a difficult situation. I could connect with that trope easily. Her sister Rose wasn't given the space to develop enough given her character's greater complexity, and I felt the actor portraying her didn't have the chops for it either.

Am I the only one who can't figure out where Poe fits? He seems out of place from his character down to Isaac's delivery of his lines. I just don't believe he's there and can't figure out why. There are way too many moving parts in the ST and they don't all need to be there.

The sequence with the kids felt like a Disney Star Wars commercial, not a film, and that may be the heart of the problem right there, for Disney Star Wars in general; but it's not like they can't do well. I had problems with Rogue One but not on this scale, and quite enjoy many of their Marvel outings.

Luke...well...that's a whole other wall of text I won't bother beating to death. The OT heroes are icons from a bygone era. I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't see our heroes age, have bad marriages and die. The brusque disposal of these icons is what renders this such a calculated, cynical exercise in money-making.

I think that moving forward, the New Star Wars will be uneven and unpredictable, and an entertaining game of "what-if". I'm not losing any sleep over it, it's the way of money and mass entertainment.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Edit: Well said ZE 501! Exactly how I felt about the language issue.

This was my ranking before TLJ:

ROTJ/ESB
R1
ANH
ROTS
TFA
TPM
Christmas special
An episode of ChiPs
Fruit cake
cream of asparagus soup
Hepatitis
AOTC

I’m thinking AOTC may move up a few places...

I agree that eliminating the bigger threat first (Snokecain) made the red guards battle seem anticlimatic, those guards should’ve just ran instead of fighting that’s what I would’ve done lol

Ok you ready for this.....know why they stayed and fought?

Yup you guessed it, Snoke isn’t dead!

Rian is trolling Snikt I guarantee it.

Am I the only one who can't figure out where Poe fits?

He fits inside Finn.

The plot for Episode IX will be Resistance vs. First Order over the issue of legalising gay marriage.

Women being turned on by Adam Driver.

Now I have to worry about if my wife thinks her exhaust port is being reamed by Adam Driver just great if she calls me Adam i’m going to call her Jlaw lol
