Their opinions don't mean **** today, IMO.

Agreed, unfortunately the corporate world has monetized their opinions via RT. Today for instance I was looking up showtimes on Fandango for Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit. The first thing I see next to the film's showtimes is the RT symbol with "92%" over it. I don't give a **** about what percentage it has on that moronic site. I'd watch anything by Bigelow. But that's the problem. The average moviegoer has been conditioned over the last decade to use that advertised percentage as a decision maker for what movies he skips in theaters or watches. So if Bigelow's movie had a 22% (like BvS) and I was an "average moviegoer", I'd basically skip the movie, pirate it, make fun of it while I watch it on my laptop and post about how bad it is on forums while the movie is still playing in the background. That's the absurd film culture the corporate machine has been building for years now. A culture that landed BvS a lower score than most Adam Sandler movies.

But you notice that Target still needs customers to buy their low RT scored movies or else they would also have a "Certified Rotten" section with a big squashed tomato on the display case lol

Exactly. :lol

You'd think they'd be worried that people would look at all the other movies that are not certified fresh and go "oh so these suck then, thanks for saving me money Target," lol.

It's on very rare occasion that I agree with a "critic" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I boycotted them after a lot of their ratings for this year's cinema offerings.

Can't wait for this movie to come out. Mr. Green only scan this thread for images and trailer.

I really hope this movie doesn't suck. :lol

:lol Too true.

:lol :D

You make some good points. Far too many people put to much faith in someone else's opinion about a movie without checking out the movie for themselves.

I've heard some people say they use RT as a meter to gauge whether to spend their hard earned money on a movie that might suck. That I can understand and relate to. I've paid to see a lot of movies that made me regret buying a ticket. :lol

This is not accurate,
People just got really tired of paying 15 bucks plus food in theaters for a bad movie

Its how people got tired of buying full cds at 20 dollars that only had one good song and now they only pay 99cents for the songs they like.

I rely heavily on ratings. With limited time to see films, I cannot afford to spend 2 hours watching crap.

Sometimes I go against the grains and take a chance. SS was the last time I did that....and although it was ok to watch , it was not good and I Would never watch its again. So most of the time I find the ratings helpful, and of course this forum.

Last film I can remember getting crapy critic reviews and then went on to become a classic was Fight Club.

With the vast amount of movies in netflix and amazon i have to check the reviews as well. I dont mind if a movie has low stars but i have to see what people said about it.

Specially as a fan of horror. 70% of modern indie horror is absolutely garbage. Most horror always has low star ratings but it helps a lot to see what people thought about it.

I also like that we now have reviews in order to help us save.

I mean. I get one, two, three... hell, four critics not liking a movie. But when it’s about 77% like it was then BvS, then something’s wrong.

They were right, because the movie sucked.

There's nothing wrong with RT. Some people get butt hurt when a film they like gets bad reviews and a low score, yet most great or good films still get good reviews by those same "dumb" critics. :duh It's so childish :lol

As for BVS, it was the worst cinematic experience I've had so far to the point that my excitement for JL is on life support. The JL trailers, the behind the scenes drama, the costume and production design, and the generic CGI villain doesn't help either. I can't believe I'm more excited for a C-tier character like Thor, than JL. :dunno

The score itdelf might be pointless but their quotes are very worth reading.

Thats what rotten tomatoes haters dont understand, most people also read the little quotes in the website.
Is not just about following a random percentage number, but u also get the highlights of their reviews

It is on rare occasion that I passed on a movie in the theater because of bad buzz only to watch it later on cable to find it to be amazing.

In fact, I can only think of "Edge of Tomorrow" right now.

The quotes are stupid sometimes. They're more concerned with writing some stupid little click bait line to sound clever and smart, which often comes across as pretentions and lacking insight. There are a few dumb critics and maybe a lot of them have an agenda, since a bad review is more attractive than a good one. It's just like the news, they mostly report bad news, as opposed to the good ones.

Still, most critics get it right most of the time, and the system works pretty well.
