That sure looks great. I would've liked more accessories, but I guess this is all it needs for a TFA version. I thought for sure there'd be a two-pack with C-3PO though.

Looking forward to this one and the eventual Threepio announcement.

Can't wait to plop this next to Tama 3PO. Some of the panels look like they're designed to open, or look the tiniest bit rough that is. Gotta check the scale of SS R2 next to BB-8 to see how much bigger this one is.

Have to say that outside of the dome I'm not seeing any huge improvement. Weathering will probably be nicer.

I heard Tamashi would be making one as well. That's the version I'd want to go with my tama 3P0.
This one looks nice though

Is it just me or do the legs look a little undersized/ skinny?

I think the SS R2 has more accurate proportions.

SS had loads of stuff, sure. It was relatively cheap, but it looked and felt cheap too.

It had a poor paint app, and dodgy "chrome" finish along with visible seams on the dome. It also had flimsy door compartments and fragile pop-outy bits. Battery life was poor, because it drained power even when the lights weren't activated. The legs were more loose than they ought to have been, making the figure easily unbalanced. It was also underscale.

SS R2 has only ever been a serviceable place-holder imo.

Yeah, that's all pretty accurate.

That said, with a five minute wipe of rubbing alcohol, my SSC R2 really came to life and on the shelf, the only thing that really bugs me is the scale.

Yeah, the sheen of the HT metal I love though - it really looks just right as a finish for R2, even if the rest of the fig isn't a huge improvement over the SSC, which was really a quite accurate effort, as usual let down by Sideshow's mediocre paint.

As with all HT SW figures, this one looks stellar overall, but is a little off in the finer details of facial likeness (the main elements of R2's "face" are all a bit off on this fig.) It's possible they had to sacrifice some accuracy to make the dome metal though.

Glad I sold my SS and saved the money for this one. Will be my new (eternal?) place holder until Tamashii finally releases their diecast R2.

I wonder if this version comes with a base.

The biggest question for me with this HT R2 - will it be the correct scale?

If it's going to be another slightly-too-small R2, that would probably make me pass on this, despite how much I love the metal dome and weathering.

I'll wait for the OT version.

Unlike 3PO, where there are quite a number of pretty noticeable OT/TFA differences beyond the red arm, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the OT and TFA R2.

They've definitely got my attention with this one. It'll all depend on price the fact that it's die cast I have a feeling is going to be the sticking point on the price

The alcohol only takes it so far though - standing next to a die-cast 3PO doesn't help - while the seam appeared to be more or less prominent depending on what example you got (mine sucked). I could have gone to town on sanding it down and completely repainting it, but I decided to wait it out for HT or Tama to bring out theirs. I'm happy enough with the details on this to pick it up - but it's going to be a $219.99 MSRP I'd guess.

Really tempting. Looks great. I have the SS and am satisfied with it for now but I know I'll want this or the eventual OT R2 that HT will most likely have planned. Decisions decisions.

Yeah, SSC - what can I tell you.:lol

It really does look pretty great on display though, especially since it could be had for something like $100 less than the HT one will be PO'ed at, and shipped something like three years earlier.

Looks really good. Hopefully the price is decent I want a R2.

Now there's the big question. HT Snowtrooper was a pleasant surprise on price, but the list of metal dome, remote control sounds and touch lights is feeling like "THIS is why it's over $200.":lol

Oh come on - who doesn't need at least two R2's? He's like a nice black dress - goes with everything.:dunno

I thought R2 had a strip of green and red LEDs on the back of the dome.

Sideshows R2 is good enough for my shelf. I know HT will probably have a better constructed design, will feel better in the hands, and have a better paint app but ultimately, most of the time it's going to be on your shelf. It's going to be posed the same way. Glad that HT finally went with a touch activated sensor though, that's a step in the right direction if you are going todo electronics.
