This is Crimson Bob's. Looks like the Hulk body was used.

That's a nice custom, but the Thing being the Hulk's height looks strange to me. The way John Byrne drew the Thing, his body was absolutely huge but he wasn't tall. He was just extremely wide, with long, thick arms. Come to think of it, Jack Kirby's Thing wasn't any taller than Reed if I'm remembering correctly. So I'd bet the Bowen statues's height would be perfect to go with Hot Toys figures since the Bowen statue is also massively bulky and wide.

Hi Jamas -

I have the Horizon model Thing and the rotocast Thing as well. Is there a particular Hot Toys figure you would like me to pop into a picture with them?

Thank you very much, there are lots of options. Here is a pic of my Marvel shelf (sorry for the crappy cell pic), if he fits I'll probably put a Thing figure on the shelf with Wolverine where my X-men and Fantastic Four comics and movies are. Otherwise I might have to rearrange and he could be next to anyone. I just want to know if the statue can pass for part of a 1/6 collection so I appreciate any pictures with a Hot Toys figure or figures you might be able to share. Thanks again.

Wow that is an impressive custom, thank you for sharing that. That must have taken a lot of work, a real labor of love.

Yea, that's right. In the early comics Kirby drew the Thing as a the same height as a normal man, but wider. Over time in the comics however his height has varied, much like the Hulk. The Hulk has always been at least a bit taller, bet he never towered over the Thing the way the MCU Hulk towers over people of normal height.

In the MCU they have gone with a very large and tall Hulk, so if they wanted to do a match up with the Hulk (and the point of having FF in the MCU would be crossover) they might have to go with a Thing at least somewhat taller than a normal human. Because of this I have often considered picking up the 14 inch talking Hulk toy from the first FF movie. My HT Hulk is almost 17 inches if standing straight up so Thing being 14 inches, taller than a human (1/6 or 12") but shorter than the Hulk but also not like they couldn't go toe to toe.

Yea, I'd like to see that too. Even though he is shorter the great width of the Bowen statue might look good with both regular HT figures and the Hulk.

heres the talking thing with pants and a quick dry brushing session ,could look good and maybe meet your requirements with the head repositioned and a bit more work and care on the paints

that thing isnt really that tall or doesn't appear it next to other figures, apologies for crap pictures ,but should give you a idea ,here he is with supes ,my supes has longer foot pegs than most figures ,but i still think it could work ,plus thing fits the shelves of a detolf :lol

Wow LIBBY1957DOG that looks fantastic!! Is this yours? if so, how did you do the pants?

I think with almost any of these options because of the rocky skin the added detail of some actual tailoring brings some "realism" which can help make a Thing figure stand up with HT's better.

Yes, I think that's a nice height for the Thing, I bet he looks great with the Hulk too.

Thanks again for sharing these

no worries guys glad it pointed you in a direction ,cant say if it was the right one ,but at least its a start :lol
wished i could help you out with pants ,but our johns girlfriend made them ,he no longer sees her :thud:
but i think they were just cut like a upside down v and sewn on the inside seam ,if that makes sense ,
perhaps spiderrouge could sew you some up ,might be worth hitting him up and see how hes fixed

She made pants for his ACTION figure? How did he let her go?

I'll try to make some of my own and see how it goes. Thanks again.

OK - Snapped some pics…

First - a side-by-side showing the Horizon model next to the rotocast. They scale pretty well to each other. My model was “professionally” built & painted many years ago by someone I made contact with though an action figure store.

Model was painted with the white stripe on the shorts. will eventually change that to black or maybe go with cloth shorts like many here have done/discussed.

I have a diorama of the “hero scene” from the first Avengers movie… dropped the Thing model, then the Thing rotocast in the middle.

Currently working on a display for Marvel movie figs… not done yet… first up shows the Thing model in the mix. Iron Man, Hulk, Thing, Antman are all the same distance from the camera, so you should get a good idea on height comparison. Wolverine is closer to the camera.
