I grew up watching those films and for every Porkys and Fast Times, there were comedies like Being There, Beetlejuice, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Goonies, Big and The Blues Brothers. Now, the best comedies are made by Pixar :lol

Wait -- did you just put Goonies in with classics like Ferris Bueller and Being There? :lol That's a wide range.

Ferris is simply the best of the 80's right there.

I fear the inevitable remake. Of all those John Hughes movies.

The logic of what they did is sound.
Take a group of hot comedians, sat-night live established with a comedy director and transport them into the world of Ghostbusters. It's exactly what happened with the original. Lightning never strikes twice though so like you mentioned they made them women, took an already box office group.
It's why Bill Murray supported the idea. It was never gonna be in competition, it separated it and made it something new.
Whether it works or not.. Well time will tell. And the "we just don't like what we saw it's not about the fact they are women" argument.. I mean C'mon!! :lol so many people were bitching about this for a year before we saw a single image from the movie. People just hate the idea.
:lol

I was hoping it would go unnoticed :monkey3

Even my placement of Goonies on that list was strategically placed to blend in with the rest :lol

The Goonies is ****in awesome

Because the idea is stupid and tasteless. :dunno

Not debating that at all man, completely subjective.
One could argue though that the original idea of 3 sat-night live comedians doing a ghost catching romp was at least on paper pretty stupid as well?
But that was catching lightning in a bottle. They made a smart pulpy classic. Mostly due to Murray being a god like bad ass.

Personally I think ANY remake of the original would have gotten a huge amount of hate. They could just have easily gone with a "hip with the kids" version with Justin Beiber leading a Twilight cast. Would that have been better? I mean which version of Ghostbusters would have worked in 2016?

The original casts kids

The original casts kids

Everyone would hate that too. A bunch of Disney mouseketeers, boy-banders raped my childhood.
Or even worse a Jaden or a Smith of some kind. I do think they should have kept it in the same universe though.

Better to just take off and nuke from orbit, it's the only way....

Before seeing any real footage, no one really should have complained about the story, considering it's close to the original story. And I personally don't care whether they are women or men. My beef is I personally don't like Feig as a director, I think he's a one hit wonder, I don't like Melissa McCarthy, and I now hate every bit footage I've seen of this. Call a spade a spade, it's a spoof, not a reboot.

That's a completely valid opinion.
I don't like, but don't hate Feig.
I thought Bridesmaids was genuinely funny at times (and I hate that **** normally), but I think that was down to Kristen Wiig's writing than him.
Truth be told if Wiig, McCarthy and the other two were in a properly scripted big cinematic affair like the original it could work IMO.
My biggest issue is how flat and TV like it looks (I quite like the multi coloured approach to the ghosts) but the original was shot on film, anamorphic, with great cinematography. Fig is not clever or talented with visuals.

The only chuckle Bridesmaids gave me is when the fat chick drove off with all the dogs.

I must admit I laughed when they blew chunks over each other at the dress fitting while one of them scatted in the hand basin.
And a few parts on the plane were slightly amusing. The fluff stuff though was horrible.

The movie is hated because it wasn't made by ghostbusters fans. It was made by people who don't respect the franchise. They cared more about getting the actors work than telling a good story.

Well this is bizarre - there's a Ghostbusters poster up in the phone box across from my work. I don't think I've ever seen an ad put up in that thing. Maybe I wouldn't be surprised if I were in the centre of Dublin but I'm not.

What's even more bizarre is that Cineworld on Parnell street is seemingly sold out IMAX 3D for the first few days. On a monday/tuesday/wednesday next week.
