At Wizard World I was at the Koto panel - since it wasn't in the program and wasn't announced it was sparsely attended. Mainly toy web board admins it seemed. I recognized almost everyone there.

They only talked about Marvel stuff for the most part.
Anyway they started off by saying they are the new place to be for high end Marvel items. "Hasbro has the toys, but for high end it's Kotobukiya". Later I asked for clarification on this and it was admitted that Bowen and Sideshow would still be doing their own thing.

But they have some interesting things coming up and lots of different types of product. Remember the horrid Indy scene thing with 4 layers and lots of stuff going on? That's an ArtFX Theatre and they will be doing those with Marvel. They are intended to represent a specific significant event - and you can vote in the most recent ToyFare about what events you'd like to see depicted - such things like Death of Phoenix, Civil Wars, Death of Gwen Stacy, etc. They didn't have a Marvel one to show though.

No pics allowed and this was all a slideshow, not stuff in person.

They'll be doing ArtFX statues (that's the unlimited vinyl statues) from Marvel comics and Marvel movies. They showed a proto from Blade that looked pretty cool.

New for them is polystone Fine Art statues - 1/6 minibusts and statues from movie and comics. They had a pic of the fully painted movie Iron Man polystone and it lights up. It was pretty kick-ass. They showed proto of the movie Hulk which will have a companion Abomination piece.

They're also doing PVC sexy lady (Bishoujo) statues of Marvel women. 1/8 scale like the ones they do currently from other properties.

Here's the flyer they gave out:

Didn't they do a lot of DC stuff at one point? I seem to remember they had a series of Batman plastic "statues" or something like that.

I suppose since DC Direct is now getting into more into statues and "unique renditions" (such as their DC anime figure) that they wanted to handle the business so Koto went with Marvel.

Oh, they also flashed a quick pic of a proto from Dark Knight. I guess they're doing a lot of stuff for that as well.

Hey Dave,

On the topic of the Iron Man light up piece and the Hulk statue, about what size did they say they were in inches? I'm hoping Sideshow will do something similar with Stan Winston Studios, but either way I'll be happy!

thanks,

Ken

The fact that they're doing a Blade makes me very happy...I like that they won't be going with only whatever is current or popular in theaters. I still need a good Tom Jane Punisher piece

Iron Man is 1/6th so with the base, probably about 14-15 inches. Hulk I have no idea, although they implied that he was 1/6th as well.

They will be doing Punisher War Zone, but didn't get into specifics as to what category. Since the movies are are fine art pieces, I'd expect poly for Punisher.

Awesome, thanks for the news. I guess I shouldn't expect any TJ stuff, since technically he's not "The" Punisher anymore, and from a marketing standpoint it maybe wouldn't be feasible to produce merchandise from an older movie thats been restarted and recasted.

I'm surprised we haven't seen photos yet....even though it said "no photos please" that never stopped pics from hitting the net from any other show....

I have the catwoman, and love it. very nice looking.

There was no actual product shown, just powerpoint slides. So it would have been a little obvious for any of us to try and photograph the screen.

Besides, it was just toy web site representatives there, so Koto would have known immediately where the pics came from.

Ah. Guess we'll have to wait for official announcements then because I'm sure the products will PO before SDCC....

Its what I was hoping for but not what I wanted exactly.

Criticisms:

1. He looks too skinny compared to the trailer

2. The red looks very pink, not at all "hot rod red" and definitely lighter than Sideshow's bust

3. The piece looks too glossy

These are my opinions and I hope its just a bad picture as I'd really like an accurate maquette of the full size Mk III armour
