I wished Kojima was allowed to do something not Metal Gear. The man is a genius and a visionary yet a prisoner to his own child.

I don't think he's capable of breaking fourth walls anymore with MGS. If it's any indication from MGS V, the theme of revenge has already been largely overplayed in pop-culture (eg. the Taranteno films, Breaking Bad, etc). So, it's not like Kojima's doing anything new with this game, and he's certainly not going to pioneer a new "culture" of games by his recent fetish on violence - done for the sake of pure shock value. In fact, I'd say that TLOU has probably done more for the culture of gaming, than Kojima could ever hope to achieve with MGS V.

His talents are really being stagnated with this series, it's not even funny anymore.

Agree on the fact that he's doing nothing new with the theme, pretty basic imho (compared to memes) but maybe he's just trying to achieve the fact that a videogame can also impact the way Tarantino and Breaking Bad did in other media. Basically that's how Koji rolls, although still nothing new theme-wise.

Well, I'd think that games like Heavy Rain and TLOU have already had such a huge impact on the industry, and taking that into consideration, Kojima's already stepping into familiar ground. He may be able to up the ante on violence, but there's only so much leeway that the Japanese censors will allow him.

Kojima just shouldn't have killed off majority of the cast in MGS 4 honestly, it was lame. A lot of it came out of nowhere too. All of this 'new generation' stuff...wut? :dunno I think he really didn't know what he was doing with that honestly. Big Boss dying...actually kind of works, maybe Eva and Zero, but Solid Snake? Why? Isn't Solid Snake part of the new generation? I'm not that surprised with Metal Gear making that list :lol

I don't know what to make of that article, Solidus. Not at all.

Solid dying was just to highlight that BB's legacy was finished, no more

Personally I ****ing hated the Old snake angle right from the start, was and is still so dumb to me.

:exactly: Kojima needs to retcon it so that Old Snake becomes Young Snake again through nanomachines :lecture

If by "nothing left to go" they mean after MGSV, then I agree, if not, then that's clearly not the case, MGSV is necessary for the lore to go full circle, if not a pivotal point.

In fact, I could argue they could still explore the Boss, so, honestly, there are still a few places to go with this franchise.

So now that I think about it, I don't really agree with MGS being in that list at all.

And like I said, either Ogre was MGSV from the get go, or it has nothing to do with MGSV.

I wouldn't mind seeing Solid Snake's Philanthropy days, but I don't know if that's really essential to the overall canon.

That is true, because we don't know how that changed Solid Snake exactly. We know that Big Boss fell from grace and became the villain we know by MG in MGS V, while the other games show what happened and his experiences; MGS 3 was a start and us getting to know and also causing him to grow disillusioned with the world, I don't know about PO at all (can't find a copy of it for the life of me), and PW was him letting go of the Boss.

But what could we see in Solid Snake's Philantrophy days? I think we could see his initial reactions to his accelerated aging, how he became less interested in things and lost some ideals, perhaps how Raiden became emo...it could work.

I'd actually love to see that, and the theme of "aging" would be something everyone can relate too.

By the way,Gamestop has PO preowned for $8 if you're interested.

I dont see why we can't have stand alone installments of MGS, Look how brilliantly Uncharted pulls it off. Even MGS1 is stand alone! Theres lots of places for stories, like your saying with Snake in Philanthropy.

Kojima has shown in the past hes great with one-offs, like Ghost Babel or Snake Tales from MGS2. The bonus is with this way hey wont get bogged down with Canon.
Id love to see more adventures with my favorite characters, and make the MGS2 sequel we deserve

That would be great, but to be honest I would rather Kojima make his new IP before he decides to make another MGS game. There could be another potentially great series he has locked away in that crazy head of his that could shake up the industry like MGS1 did.

I believe on Gamestop online you can order it.

I've seen so much grest ideas and feedback thst makes me wonder how the F does Kojima gets his feedback. He must know all of these great comments developed here guys ;-;

It was only logical, the only bad thing I have to say about GZ's tone was that if the game was longer, the tone would have bored and depressed me, so it was really hypothetical, I'm really not surprised by this move on Koji's behalf, this isn't his 1st rodeo :lol

Glad to know there will be some levity in TPP to relief the tension

I hope it's true. I don't wanna play a game where I'm supposed to feel like I wanna cut my own wrist. It's patronizing to have fiction to tell me the world is cruel, it's a redundant point and it's happening all around us even now.

That being said, I'm starting to think the whole "dark themes" was overplayed in the marketing and perhaps was just a gimmick to get people talking. Why? Because at the end of the day, it's still a Metal Gear game and Kojima can't help himself and include the trademark humor- which is GOOD btw.

If you look back at the past promotional strategies for the series, Kojima tends to exaggerate stuff because he's unaware how much he can push in terms of narrative and tech (especially so in MGS4).

I was thinking that myself, it's glaringly clear how everybody wants "dark&gritty" these days, so playing that angle is actually a clever marketing strategy to turn some extra heads to MGSV.
