Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Oh good god. I hope that's not true. That doesn't really sound grim or that dark at all. Instead of Godzilla being the one, unstoppable villain mercilessly plowing through the city and killing people and having a very emotional climactic ending, the climax is going to be Godzilla vs the final stage of Muto and it'll turn into an action film. Visually, it will look cool. But I was hoping this one would follow the roots more.

Oh well.

All they have to do at this point is to not make Godzilla a ***** and it's already an improvement from 1998.

On a more positive side....the cast sounds great. I forgot Akira Takarada is in this somewhere.

Yeah, he's a Japanese Airport official, wonder if he'll be seen around when the planes are blown up in the trailer.

I also wouldn't assume this movie's going the way of the traditional G vs. film either, it may still be very much like Gojira. For one, who knows where that site got that synopsis from, that's the first I've heard of Muto origins. Also, write ups could make it sound like something and then what you actually see play out may be different, making it sound like a typical giant monsters fight film is better for marketing, even if that's not what they're making. I don't see Edwards going that way, if the movie takes that direction, my guess would be it comes from the studio more than him.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Yah I hope for the first film they don't. If Godzilla fights monsters, I hope he kills them early in the film than the ending is all about his characterization. Like King Kong. He fought beasts but the film never strayed away from it's atmosphere and mystique.

But, I got to see how it plays out. It just sounds too corny to be taken as seriously as I was hoping they were going for.

Based on Edwards' interviews, the film is packed with metaphors about tampering with nature, be it genetics, nuclear energy, all of the creatures, no matter where they come from, will stand as nature's wrath against man, and I think the whole of the film will be man trying to survive it and stop it with any monster fights coming along as any animals crossing paths aggressively in nature would. I don't think we'll have a scene where the military's fighting mutos and suddenly Godzilla appears and saves the day, it'll just be nature unfolding.

But they show 98 Godzilla's feet because they were designed perfectly. :yess:

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Take this all with a grain of salt, but I've read some spoiler hints off another forum from someone claiming to have a copy of an early draft of the script.

Interesting reads if you're curious, but again, unconfirmed source, even if legit, not the final script.
