I think anybody that wants to be introduced to Robocop should watch the '87 movie. Absolutely. However, it's a sad fact of life that a lot of people in the modern generation are too ignorant to even consider watching something that is more than 15 years old
So, in some cases, it might be necessary, because people are too damn narrow minded to watch a film just because it was made in 1987
Doesn't change the fact that this movie will suck hard

Robocop 87 still looks ****ing amazing. I don't know why any young person today wouldn't wanna watch that.
However, as I've said before, I'm open to this film at least besting the sequels, which IMO were terrible.

Neither do I. I worked at HMV for 3 years through University and it used to infuriate me when customers would ask for recommendations and then dismiss things that they deemed to be "too old". At least give it a try.

So what if it's futile or pointless to you; if anything it's going to introduce some people to a character they may not have previously explored, and they may find themselves watching the original and loving it.
And the 2014 version could just be a good movie maybe? Who knows.
Obviously each to their own, but judging something before it's even been seen is a bit silly I think.

The 87 film is unique in multiple ways. It's a self contained, one off culturally poignant, 'dream team' project - that resonates immensely till this day. Nothing else after that was needed.

Well, I am in no way comparing some jeans to Robocop, don't take what I said too literally or as a slur against the original film. I have said repeatedly that I love the original. I'm just giving an example to illustrate how ridiculous it is to make a final decision on something before seeing it. And, as an example to illustrate the pointlessness of dismissing something as garbage before you've even seen it, it's a valid point.

I know what you're trying to say, but the gist of my last post there was just that mass produced clothing - & a one time 'lightning in a bottle' project.. are polar opposites.
If you'd thought of a more apt illustration, I'd have responded differently.

Quite a relevant example ^^ think you're reading too much into the comparison though bud.
It's obviously different enough, including story wise, to exist on its own. I'm absolutely no fan of remaking classic films and this one particularly, but it's here so lets get over it. I'm still going to the cinema to watch it as I'm curious how it'll all pan out.

No actually its not a valid point, you dont have to see this movie to know its going to suck.

No, that's not fitting either - at all.
You're using examples that will always be needed or have significant demand. People are always going to need / want clothing - whether it's hip or otherwise.
People most certainly DO NOT need a piss poor quasi duplicate of an almost perfect film - that requires no further 'retelling' 're-imagining' 'reworking' - or whatever label these imagination-less plebs want to put on it.
Unfortunately.. that's not the society we live in.
New millennium lemmings want their entertainment spoon fed to them after it's been thoroughly chewed. Gen-Y-Bothers understand Google, smart phones & HD video games, but they're too useless to do a little research of their own when it comes to discovering what quality art & entertainment actually encompasses. If it's not immediately in their faces, or in their on line feed - they're limbless torsos bobbing around in deep water.
Here's to the next ten years of popular cinema turning into lobotomy elixir.

The flares comment was a just a joke... it wasn't a serious alternative... oh well!
And the fact whether something will always be in demand or not is redundant when what I am arguing is that you cannot judge something properly before you see it. You just can't.
...
And if you look at my previous posts, you'll see that I agree with what you are saying about modern audiences dismissing movies that they deem to be too old and how ridiculous it is.
All I'm saying is, at the very LEAST, some people will see the '14 version, like it, and then consequently watch the '87 version and realise what a great movie it is, when they would've otherwise rejected it on shallow terms.
