I hope they don't cast Crews as Thing only because he needs to be Luke Cage. If Ant Man can get a movie, Power Man and Iron Fist can sure as hell get one too.

I wouldn't be against a black dude playing Thing, or Fury, or any number of other characters, so long as they still retained the essence of the 616 comic characters. I'm not sure if Crews can do that for the Thing, though (Jackson certainly doesn't do that with Fury--I don't care about whatever the Ultimates version does). The actor chosen would need some dramatic chops to play that kind of tortured character. Thing isn't just a "let's go nuts and beat the **** out of everyone" character, which is someone I think Crews would be better suited to play. He could certainly be a good member of the Wrecking Crew. He's got the build and attitude.

I was discussing this with a couple friends who are comic book fans and also happen to be black. Taking an established character and casting a black actor seems like pandering when there are so many characters that are already black, were created black and continue to be black. I don't want Tom Cruise playing T'Challa but would like to see Crews as Luke Cage.

Do you find it pandering when people come across as saying "he should play this black character because he's black and it fits" Whereas with a white actor it's because "he's a good actor that could pull off the characterisation of the character" not just the skin colour.

If you get my meaning.
