RIP James Gandolfini

I nearly cried yesterday when I found out about this...the only celeb that I have shed a tear over was Michael Jackson...but this one hurt just as bad to me. I was a huge fan of his and loved all the roles I saw him in. I know a few people that met him personally and they said he was a very nice, down to earth kind of guy. Sucks so bad to think of a world without "Tony Soprano"....sigh

Only 2 celebrity deaths bothered me.

1. Steve Irwin- the greatest animal advocate ever IMO. Just a down to earth great person. He had so much passion for animals. Such a tragic death.

2. Phil Harris from Deadliest Catch. He lived a hard lifestyle and smoked and drank to excess. He really tried to pass on his knowledge to his two Sons.

His best role isn't even Tony Saprono, it was his part in true romance that I will always remember him for. "Come to daddy". The fight between him and Patricia arquette is classic hardcore fun. Hit in the head with an iron or whatever, ****ing brutal.

I think I'm safe in saying that part built his career. Immense!

Didn't care for The Sopranos but he was a good actor. Was a bit shocked when I saw this come across my phone last night.

Yea Tony Scott gave him his first film role.

He was also good in The Last Castle and pretty much everything else he did. It felt like he was just sort of waiting for the Sopranos hype to die down a little and starting to get back into major film roles so he could shake the comparison. Would have loved to seen where another 10 years of movies could have taken him.

He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series three times. His dedication and commitment to that role was incredible!

To compare a five minute scene with a role that stretched over 86 episodes/72 hours is just plain crazy to me!

I got the feeling his acting career was really starting to take off. His role in Killing Them Softly was fairly small as was his role in Zero Dark Thirty. However they are pretty big movies and it felt like he was on the brink of getting some deserved attention. I also was looking forward to seeing what he would do over the next couple of decades

Gandolfini was ****ing hilarious in "Klling Them Softly". Not the best movie, could have been way better, but the hotel seen with the hooker was hilarious.

I have the awesome box set of the entire series, time to dust it off and watch them again. I had always hoped we might get a Sopranos movie somewhere down the line but that can't happen without "Tony"

Loved the big guy in True Romance! The scene with Patricia Arquette always stood out for me. Absolutely brutal!

Usually when I hear of a celebrity death, I acknowledge it and move on. But this one bothers me. I truly respected and enjoyed the work Mr. Gandolfini did. He was such a screen presence. I will miss seeing his work.

I'm glad I started re-watching The Sopranos from the beginning a few weeks ago.

RIP.

He looked older than 51 when the Sopranos started and that was a good few years ago.
