Lethal weapon
Mad Max
mission Impossible (ghost protocol)
Superman Reeve
Indiana Jones

Spiderman (spiderman 2)
The man with no name trilogy (good bad ugly)
Dirty Hairy
Rocky
RoboCop
POTC
Fast & Furious
... wait I can go on and on with this list

Lol the thread should be changed since most trilogies only have 1 great movie with the rest ranging from good to crap. As a result u could probably list every single franchise outside of the original star wars trilogy which has New Hope and Empire Strikes back, and maybe Nolan's batman with batman begins and TDk being considered great

I enjoy all the Pirates movies because I love the Jack Sparrow character.

As much as I loved the Jack Sparrow character in Curse of the Black Pearl, I feel they did what I was afraid they would do to the character back when they announced sequels and turned him from a manipulator playing the buffoon to the buffoon attempting to play the manipulator. I also don't care for how static the character ended up remaining - the main character needs to have more facets, IMO.

They walked the fine line in the first movie, but couldn't keep it up in the sequels. The first movie also had a sense of adventure that was lost in the sequels when they got a little bit too convoluted and overly focused on the supernatural.

I would have to say Pirates qualifies in this topic for me - even if I did enjoy watching Dead Man's Chest (there's a little bit too many character WTFs in it though, very plot dictated that felt out of place) - and I find At World's End to be mostly a silly waste, minus some stronger moments towards the end.

I also agree with The Matrix.

Mad Max 1 and 2 were both awesome IMO :dunno

I am a massive Back to the Future (1) fan, but think 2 and 3, though good and enjoyable, are far from the greatness of part one. I think Rocky and First Blood are also the only "great" films of those franchises, since someone brought up Rocky. I know some folks have a soft part for First Blood Part 2, but from a dramatic standpoint it's light years behind First Blood.

Jaws and Halloween right off the top of my head.

A lot of the movies people are listing I liked, but I learned a long time ago that I'm not as picky as many on this board.

Gremlins has one of the best sequels ever. It's off the rails in the best possible way. And is a great meta hit on unnecessary sequels.
