Got any spare change? How 'bout a smoke?

Well even if the new Joker looks... err, less than impressive. It is still all about the delivery and I hope he can pull it off. I'd hate for this Batman revival to die a horrible death after only one good movie.

But for my money the best is still Burton's first... followed by the classic movie.

I contacted a couple of suppliers. One says it will be getting shipped in a week, the place I'm getting mine from says the customiser has taken a month leave, and so they expect it between mid to late August. Optomistic? Perhaps. I'd be happy with early September.

definitive describes something which is considered an authoritative, final or conclusive example or version of its type. out of who's available to choose from, you guys have left the form blank. you guys refuse to choose someone?

so you guys are saying there is NO joker that lives up to your exacting standards?

i think we've found our definitive 'jokers'. :stooge

someone...call burton! :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

In all fairness, I think each interpretation of the Joker has had a unique characteristic that differentiates them from one another. Nicholson had the treacherous villainy, Hamill had the playful wittiness, Koenig had the twisted psyche and Romero had the over-the-top camp. If you mixed all of those elements together you would have a definitive Joker. To me, Nicholson was my fave because I love the first Batman film, no matter how flawed as purists will argue, the same argument can be applied to Batman Begins or the Dark Knight. I do not share Nolan's take on Batman just as some do not share Burton's. I guess that is why there are so many interpretation on film, television and the comics. Everyone seems to have their idea of what a character should be and how they should be portrayed. For me, in the comics, it's Killing Joke Joker and on film it's Nicholson but If I could make my own Batman film, I'd cast John Malkovich. I've had him in mind for the Joker for years and I think he'd be perfect. However, to say that there has not been a definitive Joker is to completely misunderstand the character. They will never be satisfied and will be waiting ad nauseum for the "definitive" Joker to come like he were the second coming of Christ and that just ain't gonna happen.

Where did you order yours from?

The BEST of all time!!!

I think visaully, the Nicholson Joker looks the best. I am hoping that the Ledger Joker is going to surpass this one (although his appearance leaves something to be desired).

I am also suprised that no one has mentioned the BTAS Mark Hammil Joker. His was pretty d@mn good for a cartoon.

Even putting aside the fact that Nicholson really only portrayed a caricature of his own personality amped to 20 as The Joker, he was also far too old for the role. Malkovich would be, too.

Like I said, the jury is still out on Ledger. And no matter what he looks like, my money is that he'd end up portraying a Joker that is much closer to that in the books than anything we've seen live action to date. And that's what matters to me.

My choice would actually be a left-field one, though: Tim Olyphant. I think he could pull of the PERFECT Joker... right out of "The Killing Joke" (which I agree is THE DEFINITIVE vision of the character). But I think Ledger has the chops to get pretty close to that, too.

Let Nicholson play the old Joker from The Dark Knight Returns. :lol

The Joker wears makeup. Nicholson wasn't too old and neither would Malkovich, in fact, they are more seasoned actors than the pretentious kiddies running around Hollywood today that look like they all graduated from the former WB network and after seeing that atrocity of Die Hard 4 Tim Olyphant was so wooden and boring as a villain I cringe at even the suggestion he would be the Joker. Awful choice.

Don't think DIE HARD Olyphant, think SCREAM 2/DEADWOOD Olyphant.

Regardless, I'm talking about the Joker from the books ("The Killing Joke", in particular) and imho that requires a younger more firebrand performer.

Nicholson was good as the Joker, but way to large. The Joker should be a fairly skinny guy , that and the whole the Joker killed Wayne's parents thing bothered me from the first Burton film.

He wasn't too old, but he was a little too well fed. Joker should be tall and lanky. Jack was short and chubby. Now the Shining Jack would be a little be better.

Some Shine, some don't.

So this is the new Joker huh....

I'll take Jack any day.
I don't think it's fair to judge Ledger's Joker based on one image, besides that image appears to be from the Joker interrogation room scene. If we had first seen Nicholson's Joker based on this image from the Burton movie where his face gets splashed with water by Kim Basinger, we'd be just as pessimistic of his rendition:

However, this image of Ledger as the Joker looks promising:

I'll just wait until I see the film to ultimately pass judgment on Ledger's rendition.

Yep I think my ultimate Joker is the 'Killing Joke' version myself.
