Let's face it - it's really your nail polish remover.

Is it a good idea to put varnish on these?? Lets say that its not a few isolated cases and its a problem like the DX. If theres a recall, maybe HT and SST wont accept a return because of the varnish. just my 2 cents.

Interesting point.

I'm thinking it may just be the buckle that's causing the reaction. I could use a tiny bit of tape and a little piece of foam, or something like that, to raise the buckle off the suit so that it's not making contact anymore. It's as good a theory as anyone has at this point...:dunno

I can't believe you guys are still complaining about this, whatever happened to enjoying your figures? This figure was a week ago (and for me still) one of, if not the best, batman figure ever made. Now all of a sudden when a few people get it in hand, it becomes terrible.

Come on guys, lets have some common sense here.

if you use Acrylic varnish from vallejo, you can clean it up with cotton and alcohol, just be gentle and patient and it will all come off. the acrylic paint also can be removed with alcohol.
have done that on some "repaints" i have made, and regret of what I have donne :p

If this happened to one person or a thousand, you can't ignore the fact that it's happened and it's a concern. That being said, I'm enjoying the hell out of this figure.

:D

Maybe if this was the 80's again. Oh no, wait, that was eye make-up.

Those were the days. :lol

I don't think anyone would notice matte clear varnish on the back of the belt buckle.

Wouldn't the 303 Aerospace protectant be useful in this case? I would think it would help seal it. It's what I would try if I had one. I'm thinking that crossing your fingers and hoping for the best while doing nothing will probably just result in leaking at some point. However if a rubber vinyl protectant is used, it might just seal in all of the moisture and prevent or reduce any leakage. To me, you are basically stuck with a deteriorating figure unless you try something like this. It's practically a foregone conclusion. I'm betting also that the protectant would basically isolate the rubber suit from any chemical reaction with the belt.

:lecture UB Assinine would work best in this case.

The Batman Professor has used 303 on his Batman figures for years and they are all like new without any issues at all, keeping them all like new. 100% success rate. Therefore mine was an educated speculation. Unless someone has tried this and failed, there is no reason to believe it can't work.

Let us know if anything else shows up. I'll do the same.

Will do. I really think it is just the glue from the tape. Only time will tell I guess.

I might glue the magnet back in eventually but I have no intentions of displaying him with the grapple hook on his belt anyway so for now I just stored it in a little baggy and put it back in the box..

Toys2 was kind enough to let me switch my second Batman pre order which I had already paid in full to a Joker no problem (I just had to pay the difference). I figure I will wait a couple months and see how this all plays out before picking up a second Batman. It really is a spectacular figure.

Well I don't think more chemicals is the answer. Why not just put a buffer between the belt and the suit, like a piece of felt on back of the belt.

No offense to TBP, but I don't think I'd even consider it unless it was more than a single person confirming it worked.

I hear what you are saying, but I have never had any negative effects from using a quality rubber protectant on any type of rubber, while I have had rubber deteriorate without any. With this oil issue, the odds of it happening to anyone are greater than any danger from using a protectant IMO. Basically, I would have much more confidence in using it than not, to ensure that it has no problems. Obviously, no one will really know until they try. There should be some people to test it. Get two figures and try it on one, and leave the other untouched as a control under the same conditions and see what happens.

I think Hot Toys should try silicone, like RealDoll uses. I doubt they have any oil leakage issues. I don't see why it wouldn't work here.

At one point in time though, people felt the same about ArmorAll and look what that does to stuff 10 years later.

As for silicone, I don't think that'd allow them to have the type of profit margin they're getting on Batman. It's not cheap.

The problem with that is there are too many scared little girls who would rather see their toys turn to ash than use a proven agent developed for the marine and aerospace industries. Industries that use these agents for applications to prevent component failure, which if that were to occur, could result in loss of life, not just a widdle toy getting boogered up. This guy has been out of the box since 2006, refreshed with 303 twice a year:

That said, I don't think 303 would solve this problem, only mask it. The piece of felt idea seems best to me under these circumstances. This figure has been on open display since 2008:
