Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

He wants a full refund and expects to keep the item because i " miss represented its condition (total lie) ". The item in question is a laptop. We got 2 for christmas and we only needed 1 so we sold it on ebay. It was used about 2 times max very minimally. But he has told ebay it is referbished, covered in scracthes, does not go online and i rigged the bidding to get my friends to bid up at the end to get the auction up. And the killer is he won it for £27. It was brand new and only opened at christmas. He won it for a ripoff price and still wants it for free.

I have so much lack of faith in ebay im already resigned to the fact ive lost it.

Sounds like one hell of a cheapskate, petty m***er****er. Sorry for all the cursing, but reading this stuff brings out a Hulk-like rage.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

I don't know how ebay is still around. If sellers aren't protected, they won't want to sell there and if ebay doesn't have any sellers, they don't function. :dunno

Despite all of Ebay's problems, I think that people end up listing there because its their only alternative. To this date, I've never gotten anything sold anywhere else. I've tried everything, from listing on forums, Craigslist, posting up flyers that I printed out, but to no avail. But, as soon as I list on Ebay, my item usually sells within a few days.

I think it has more to do with buyers trusting Ebay's protection policy, and because of that, they won't buy something if it's not listed directly on Ebay.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

have you seen threads like the A2C thread on here? You can't really escape these problems. the minute you send money to a stranger online you just have to hope for the best it works out. I dont see any fool proof way buying anything from a stranger online. Only way to avoid any of this is just buy stuff at your local shops or directly through companies like SSC since they have great customer service and are very helpful if something is damaged, lost or broken.

True, I know. In fact I purchased something off A2C shortly before he decided to start screwing people. What I was saying though was that here you have the option as a seller of not selling to someone who, for whatever reason, you think could be a risk. Yes, once you do enter into a transaction, like on ebay, you just have to hope the other party will be honest.

Always, always take a ____ ton of pictures/video of the item you're selling and take pictures/video of taping the box up . . . etc. Only way to be safe these days.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

I just won't sell on ebay full stop. I've gotten as far as the listing forms, but it all looks like too much hassle. Then the ebay and paypal fees and the potential to get royally ****ed over by someone and by ebay....just all very off-putting.

Also, since it would be your first time selling, you'd have to ship first before you'd get your payment. The funds are held from entering your account until the buyer receives an item.

I bought this book that I needed for one of my classes this semester from this poor girl. She had a decent number of positive feedback points as a buyer but just started out selling.

So I win the book and pay immediately. Then I notice I have this hourglass symbol stating that the funds have been held on her end. I contacted her to see what was up, because I needed the book right away and I was told that, since she's new to selling she has to send the book first before she receives any payment. She sent it immediately, I got it in two days, she gave me feedback and even a week later paypal is still holding it.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

Alway always remember, to open and check the content of the box before you signed for it. If postman do not allowed it, have the item self collect it at the PO counter. U have all the right to check content before you sign for it.

If you are sending $$$ via paypal for some private sales, always always remember to send it under GOODS. Unless you personally know the seller, you can send as GIFT, else always send as GOOD so you will be protected.

So some people seem to think (and id say Thousands of cases have been like that) i just hope my case isnt the same.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

I guess we all have horror stories, mine had to deal with a buyer who purchased a Gentle Giant Leia/R2 maquette from me on eBay and it was brand new unopened in box, I listed every detail clearly. He won it and then filed a claim against me saying the peg that connects to the base was broken and there was scratches on the base. Paypal refunded him and he sent me back the statue....here's the direct kick to my face....when he sent me pictures of the damaged statue, the edition number clearly was NOT mine and I explained that to eBay and paypal by providing pictures of mine, but they said it was my fault. So I ended up giving him a full refund and ending up with a broken statue that he decided to switch on me. All the pictures I took from every angle couldn't save me.....well I hope you guys have more luck.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

Wait, you can buy something from ebay, receive it, demand a refund and keep the item?

yes, this has happened to me multiple times. ebay/paypal will take money out of your account and refund it to the buyer without them having to give any return shipment information or anything. i sold some brand new shoes on ebay, and the buyer said the shoes were damaged. i really hate ebay. what is stupid is the shoes were like 20 bucks. no telling what these buyers get away with.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

One of us (not exactly us) needs to set up an auction/sale website where you can sell things and the resolution team actually has more than 2 brain cells.

Ebay is run by a pack if imbeciles. You would think they would favour the sellers as they are the source of income.

They take your listing fee, final value fee and then piss on you and give the lying buyer your money.

HOW? I don't get it. HOW could they not see what happened there?? Shower of scumbags or idiots, I don't know whats worse.

Y'know this thread needs to be retitled. Clearly the buyer wasn't a moron at all. But ebay's claims department is certainly run by morons.

Yep, I am going through one right now. Its only about $30 so its not THAT big a deal but its the principal of the thing... and I know the rat bastard is going to get to keep my item. I believe that will be the last thing I ever sell on ebay.

i know, i wish i could quit, but it is a necessary evil. I really cant find anywhere else to sell my things with that big of a customer base.

Yeah, thats the problem. Luckily I sold off most of my stuff last year (wih no problems thank goodness) so I don't have much left anyway.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

The worst I had was where some Dude bought my HT P1. When he received it he claimed one of the hoses broke. I showed him pics with the hose clearly attached before shipping and that it may have been broken during shipping. He claimed Japanese post would not do anything and extorted back 60 bucks from me.

Re: Moronic eBay Buyer! Joker DX 01 Horror Story

I run into this situation all the time, even though I've been selling for a few years. You don't have to be a new seller for PayPal to hold your funds, they'll do it for whatever reason they deem necessary. If your item happens to be "high risk" (eg. high priced collectibles), if you have less than 100 feedback scores on your profile, or even in the case that you do have a lot of feedbacks but haven't been selling much for the year - all of those are reasons for PayPal to hold funds.

Did the seller upload the tracking number to PayPal to show them proof of the delivery? Also, did you make sure to leave her positive feedback after you received the book? It's more important for the buyer to leave positive feedback on the seller's profile, for additional proof of a successful transaction. Her funds were most likely being held for an extended period because one of those two things were neglected. PayPal usually releases funds immediately once feedback is left (from the buyer) and when proof of delivery is provided through online tracking.

Sadly, I asked myself that question, but I guess as long as eBay gets there share of the money, they leave us defenseless from scumbag buyers. Also by only having the buyer be able to leave negative feedback was the biggest mistake they ever made, I'm sure they had their reasons, but that leaves us sellers vulnerable :gah:
