I never owned the original. While this doesn't have the resonance for me that would come from a film-based statue, this is going to be huge--and the detail and texture look great.

I mean they coulda done the armoured troll at the black gates into rotk...dunno...it's badass but emotional attachment to it

I don't know. I guess as a LOTR fan and having read books that talked about different types of Trolls I have a built in attachment to it.

If guess I'm just thinking that I a line of sculpts based on movie likenesses it just seems unnecessary and outta place, given that there was plenty of others that woulda fit in more with the sub-theme

Agreed, as incredible as it looks, I would have preferred a Troll we would recognise from the films, but that's just me.

Anyone else notice the similarity between this and the original cavey? excluding all the 'armour' on the new one of course.

It's been a while...

Both left leg, right arm forward, right leg and left arm back, same tummy layers etc.

I know Trolls are Trolls and they would by definition look similar, with the exception of the Stone Trolls but this to me just looks like a re-worked/ upgraded Original Cavey. That's not necessarily a bad thing for some but it would have been nice to see a completely new sculpt of a Troll we recognised from the films.
It's still gonna be an amazing piece to display, especially if combined with all that detail and if the same size as the original.

Just my opinion though. I used to own the Original Cavey and it was a thing of beauty, that's for sure so I have no doubt this one will not disapoint either

I think it fits in since we saw many Trolls in the movies and this could be just another example. I love the way it looks and how it really resembles the original Cave Troll just with armor.
