This is the worst thing that could've happened to the classic monster line. High price (for a non-PF monster) and a so-so sculpt... This may be the nail in the coffin. :monkey2

And here I thought the worst thing that could possibly happen to the classic monster line was yet another year of not a single new offering, like last year.....but what do I know? :dunno As for the price, I guess you haven't been paying much attention to SS's increasing price points lately......1/6 scale LOTR maquettes at $235-$250, Marvel 1/5 scale Hobgoblin and Beast comiquettes at $300 and $275 respectively, and a 1/5 scale vampirella at $290. Call me crazy, but a 1/5 scale Nosferatu statue at $235 seems like a bargain to me when compared to SS's other licences and lines.......:cuckoo:

Yes and no. I am no fan of non-refundable deposits on any level, but Sideshow has acknowledged that if the quality of a final piece is not satisfactory to us, we can get that deposit refunded.

As cool as it was to see Chicky's response, what I got from it was that the NRD refund is subjective. If Sideshow sees nothing wrong with the piece (and let's face it, they won't), you'll still wind up paying for shipping (both from Sideshow and back) if you're not satisfied which, depending on the piece, is just as much, if not more, than the NRD.

I thought the cancellation fee meant they were keeping the NRD.

It's sad because I love Sideshow; but all of these fees are extremely un-fan-friendly.

I got the same impression. That's why I added that next disclaimer paragraph :lol. I reserve the right to read Sideshow the riot act (and I WILL, believe me), if there is any kind of problem, and they refuse to refund my NRD and/or shipping charges.

I say it's the worst thing because this piece will be the one they bring up every time they are asked why they aren't doing any more monsters.

So which piece will SS say is responsible for the fact this is the first and only classic monster statue produced since the Spook '09 SSE Creature dio.?

The SSE Creature Dio, when it didn't fly out of the warehouse like the first two in the series. I think they forgot the fact that the first two pieces only had an ES of 50. Because of that, the Creature, with an ES of 100, took quite a while to sell out because some genius thought, "Hey, let's double the ES! It doesn't matter that the first two edition sizes were only 50!" forgetting that outside of a handfull, the majority of people who'd go ape____ over this are those who picked up the first two, to complete the collection.

The non refundable deposit business is obviously because the economy is in the crapper and people will be less inclined to cancel a piece they already have money invested in. If the economy gets worse than it already is--Sideshow doesnt want to get stuck with a bunch of product that will hurt their bottom line.

maybe sideshow should put out statues people will buy :dunno

Was there another version of the SSE Creature dio. that I'm not aware of, because the SSE Creature Dio. that I bought last Spook sold out the same afternoon it went up for pre-order. I know because the editon sold out about 20 minutes after I managed to snag mine.

Actually, the SSE Creature bust is still in stock. It boggles my mind, but it's true.

Yeah, I just looked that up and you're right. OK, so every version of every UM PF and dio. is sold out , and every version of every 1:1 scale bust is sold out except for the SSE version of the Creature, a bust which quite frankly IMO looks like crap compared to the colour version. And this is the theory people want to go with as to the reason why SS hadn't produced a UM statue for the past year.....:cuckoo:

Perhaps you've been living in a cave somewhere, but with the US economy going down the toilet and the unemployed/underemployed nationwide closing in on the 20% range, what do you suggest people use in place of money to buy statues from SS....buttons. You do have the ability to figure out the difference between wanting to buy something....and having the money to do so, right?

When things go up for preorder, as we learned with the Frankenstein vs. Wolfman dio, they don't put the full ES up for preorder. So it might Wait List shortly after being listed because the allotment for the preorder sold through. But a day or so later be back up for preorder as the rest of the ES is added. This is of course, assuming they're still doing the same thing they were doing when the FvW dio was released.

It's not a theory. Sideshow gauges interest by how a given release for a license sells. The poor sales of just a couple pieces can condemn a line to the infamous quote, "We've put the line on hold while we gauge collector interest." :(

SS guages interest within specific lines, and acts accordingly. They do not scap an entire licence because one line within that licence is not doing well. Poor sales of the SSE Creature bust has nothing to do with the dio. or PF lines, both of which have been quite successful.

Here's an "Ask Sideshow" question from a few months ago:

Q. Is the Universal Monster diorama line finished?

A. In a manner of speaking it is, but we think we have a much more satisfying follow-up for the fans of Universal Monsters in the works.
https://www.sideshowtoy.com/?p=13565

Would you guys call this a "much more satisfying follow-up" to the dios? I know I wouldn't. I thought the dios were fantastic. Why would they stop the dio line if not for poor or low sales? I don't recall if edition sizes were posted right away for the regular dios, were they? It could be that, while the dios all eventually sold out, the ES was lower than Sideshow had hoped. :dunno

Listen, I'm not trying to piss all over this piece, it's not bad, but it's not great either. If classic monsters do continue in this form, then great, maybe the next one will be better. But I will say that I am seriously chapped that the dios are no longer going to be made in favor of this.

Amazing how the original PF went for $150 when it was released.

Which is laughable now, but seemed steep back then. We were used to $25-30 12" figures and were taking a leap into unknown territory with the Orlok PF. Upon receiving it and opening the box though, it felt like worth every penny when setting it up for display.
