WW: Hughes vs. Penn III - UFC 123 (November 20, 2010)

Anyone else heard about this? I thought Penn was done with the WW division!?

thats odd..............not a wise decision imo cause he will be the 2nd or 3rd best at LW for awhile longer, the same cant be said in the WW division.

:slap Two directionless fighters meet that are far from a title shot. :slap

not really, Hughes last win was a big one, and if he beats Penn, i could see him only needing another win after that for a title shot. Penn has to really prove that he can hang in the division before Dana gives him another shot

I'm not sure about hughes being close. I think he needs atleast 3 more wins, over accomplished and relevant welter weights.

Penn was supposed to fight another LW opponent, but the person ended up being injured and not able to take the fight with Penn. Dana then called Penn and offered him Hughes. Penn said it was an offer he couldn't refuse.

It seems that Penn was not really planning on moving up to WW just yet, but since he wants to keep fighting as often as he can, he took the Hughes fight due to his LW opponent being injured.

So I got to meet Wanderlei and Chael yesterday evening and it was awesome! Wanderlei was so cool with me and my wife talking to us and getting pics with us as was Chael. Chael started "sparring" with this kid that had on some spar pads as he was walking out. That fool is big in person. He must walk around close to or a little over 200lbs. He looks like he could easily fight in the LHW division. It was a bit harder to tell with Wand since he was on crutches just having had his knee surgery done. Super cool dudes needless to say. Still stoked today about it.

That's awesome.

I am really looking forward to tonight's night of fights. I really hope my Boy Jimmy Miller takes it to Tibau. Jimmy is an awesome down to earth dudes, plus he brings the pain.

I highly doubt Hughes will ever get a shot at GSP's titile again. Imagine Hughes vs GSP pt. 4 :slap It doesn't change Hughes has accumulated one of the most impressive resumes in the history of MMA. As much as i like BJ, i hope Hughes lays the smackdown on him.

Yeah id actually like to see Hughes win just to get the point across to BJ that he needs to focus more and get his poop together. I like BJ, but after a loss he just seems to have no direction. I'll give it to BJ for stepping up and just taking the fight though. I alway like watching him fight, just never know which Penn your going to get.

The UFC announced it yesterday so it's official: Hughes vs. Penn III in the co-main event at UFC 123 on Nov. 20 at the Palace at Auburn Hills. Main event will be Machida vs. Rampage.

Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares - Could go either way though TBH.
Efrain Escudero vs. Charles Oliveira
Jim Miller vs. Gleison Tibau
Cole Miller vs. Ross Pearson

So does Cro Cop stand a chance against Mir next weekend guys. I like to think there is some of the old Cro Cop left but it gets harder and harder to watch him fight each time.

Nate Marquardt - I want Nate to win, but I could see it either way
Efrain Escudero
Jim Miller
Ross Pearson - I think his ground game is lacking but I still want him to win.

As for Mirko...no way, I like Mirko, but hes basically got a punchers chance and thats about it. Mir just has to many weapons against Mirko and not to mention the size difference. Mirkos problem is he has problems with guys who press forward he likes when guys back away and keep in range for his kicks...I dont see Mir backing away. I see him coming foward and striking and if it gets too dangerous it goes to the ground and Mirko is a fish out of water my friend.
