Re: Planet of the Apes - TV series

I looked up the dates, the TV series is from 3085 and the first film is from 3978 with Beneath happening shortly after.
I got the exact opposite impression, Zaius is too similar, almost identical to be the film character. That and the costumes and Ape City also look identical. And that's what pissed me off so much about the continuity break with the movies, the series seems to take place after the first two movies.
Even with the dates taken into consideration, I still didn't like the series, there was nothing really compelling or challenging in it.

And I don't think there's any need to ask for TV series characters from HT, since the Gorilla Captain feels directly from the Series. I didn't even notice any Gorilla Captains in the films, but they're quite obvious in the series.

Strangely enough there is a time discrepancy as early as the second film. Yes, the first film pegs Taylor's splash down as the year 3978. Yet, in Beneath they re-set the clocks and change the date to 39055. It is this date they keep referring to for the rest of the film series.

Re: Planet of the Apes - TV series

I love the TV series. Are there any plans to put these figures into production?

Re: Planet of the Apes - TV series

Apes DEFINITELY deserves it's own thread, guys. I would be tempted to visit your Apes thread more if it wasn't 3,000 pages long (laugh) cause I am an Apes fan enough to enjoy seeing what you guys have going on.
I would suggest to continue starting different threads for Apes from now on.
The dioramas I have seen there blow me away. If Indy can get a thread cause he has his own line line, with HT now making Apes again, why not you? Besides, it will keep you out of the other areas! :rotfl
I keed, I keed! I'm a keeder!

I loved the tv show as a kid and own the DVDs (that I still need to watch).
I'm probably from a non-existant Ape fan tangent that was only really a fan of the first movie and the TV shows where humans were slaves.

What happened later on was less interesting to me than the way their world was in the first movie.

Have you guys ever seen this photo before?

You never cease to amaze me with your photo finds, Jess!

And no, I had not seen that one. Thanks for sharing. :D

I love the opening of Escape. I think SS should have made the human outfits for Cornelius and Zira. They would have mad great Exclusive figures. I think someone needs to make that suit Cornelius wears. How SS missed this outfit, I have no idea.

Re: Planet of the Apes EFTPOTA

Ape-o-Nauts and Armando would make for some cool figures :lecture

A set of Hot Toys Ape-O-Nauts are on the top of my wish list. :monkey5:monkey5:monkey5

Along with Virgil.... but that is a different movie. :monkey3:monkey3:monkey3

Funny, those outfits can also be seen in the Cantina scene in Star Wars. :naughty

If I remember right, Brent said to his blind captain that there might have been damage to the space shuttle's computer and it might actually be much later then what he said. I watched it a few days ago, it's constantly replaying on Fox Movie channel and the Encore Action channel.
Watch the Fox Movie Channel versions for the Widescreen versions.

Re: Planet of the Apes EFTPOTA

I've always had a hard time getting into this one becuase the premise didn't make sense. In the first two movies Zaius is keeping everything covered up, then in Escape we find out that not only was Taylor's spaceship recovered from the forbidden zone but was repaired and piloted by a society that still considered manned flight an impossibility. I know the point of Milo's character is to explain away the technological aspect, but it's all just too big of a pill to swallow, even for an Apes movie. Only strong performances from Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter and the shocking ending make it watchable for me.

Yet, under hypnosis, Zira in "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" is asked the date on the spaceship she was flying in (yeah, chimps can fly, right) when the she sees the Earth destroyed and she says "thirty nine fifty.... something".

Ah, That's one that I'll be recording soon, probably tomorrow.
Yeah, then the continuity is all over the place. Maybe it was Taylor's ship that had the busted clock? :lol

Yeah, that pill was easier to swallow when I was 8... when I originally saw it released in theaters.

Now... not so much. It is easily my least favorite of all five films. But the chemistry of Roddy and Kim is SO fun to watch... it makes the film bearable as a fan.

Yet it was Taylor's ship that Zira and company were in when the stated the different date. :duh

Perhaps those resourseful chimps found a way to fix the clock too.

Re: Planet of the Apes EFTPOTA

I hate that the uncut version of CONQUEST is not out on DVD or Blu-ray, even though FX aired it over Thanksgiving weekend. :tap

My wife bought me a blu-ray player for Christmas knowing that the Planet of the Apes blu-ray's contained some extra footage. Funny thing is... I had recorded the uncut version of CONQUEST on DVD during the Thanksgiving POTA weekend. Now, I don't want to shell out the extra $$$ for the POTA Blu-rays.

Are you serious? I thought that the Blu-Ray was supposed to have the uncut Conquest, or extended version. Not that I have a Blu-Ray player, mind you...but SOMEDAY, perhaps. :monkey4
