Saw the Spectre steelbook at BB today. It's the first time I've passed on a steelbook of a movie I want to own solely due to the inevitable release in a higher quality format i.e. UHD. I can't see buying any new releases at this point unless they are 4k UHD (or 3d blu ray)...even though my rig won't support 4k yet. :rolleyes2

I also noticed The Martian UHD is cheaper than the 3d blu ray. It really sucks that they're making us choose between the two, but they have effectively kept me from purchasing either. :pfft:

Did jye say there isn't going to be UHD 3D or was I just dreaming that? Or that you can't have both on the same TV? I slept in class I guess. :lol

Yep no 4k 3d, but they should've included the 1080p 3d disk with the UHD version IMO. Also I never watch movies a puny tv lol. :nono

You didn't miss much. The Spectre steel book is pretty simplistic, art/design-wise...though I like the embossed/debossed bullet hole, the steelbook has a gloss finish that is a magnet for dust and fingerprints. I got it because Best Buy was offering an extra 250 rewards points for ordering it.

And though I hate to double dip (triple dip in the case of Casino Royale), I do wish I had taken up the offer to pick up any of the other Bond steel books for $5 with the purchase of the Spectre Steel book, if only to have the Daniel Craig run in steel book.

And I hear you about the 3D/UHD argument. Before 3D TVs became affordable, I made the decision to future-proof my collection by buying any 3D versions of movies that were available...but I'm not jumping in the UHD arena yet.

The Martian 4K. Now I just need a 4K TV with HDR, have a feeling it might be a while.

That is unless Jye is feeling really, really generous. ;)

Go ahead Jye, it'll make you feel so good inside.

I've got the Blu-Ray bug, here's my latest additions.

We went to Family Video and rented Specter last night. It felt nostalgic lol. I haven't been to a rental place in years. I'm glad I didn't pay for the steelbook. Mediocre movie.

An actual video rental shop? Wow. We just have Redboxes around here.

We have Family Videos all around us. They're usually quite busy, especially on the weekends. The one near me pops fresh popcorn and has movie theater goodies you can pick up when you get your movies and there's also a pizza place right beside it.

Is it a Marco's Pizza? That's what's inside the one I went to. They even had an order window inside the video store.

For all the convenience of Redbox and Netflix, if stores could afford to compete price wise, I would rather go to a store just for the experiece.
