I don't get what you're getting at? I worked for a union and it was much what devil is describing. Going from a non union machine shop to Quaker Oats was a big shock to me. I have never had and still don't have as gravy as a job as I had there. The work ethic and sense of entitlement the employees had there shocked me. It's no surprise that they are no longer in business in Pa.


Devil is simply stating his Libertarian values.. there is nothing new or specific about those values and he never uses references to establish his case.. its simply 'because Devil says so' (ipse dixit) .... ie. Unions are bad, except Unions which never take industrial action (which of course would be a toothless employee representative organisation).. the Market is infallible.. any criticism of the Market is part of the global commie conspiracy, etc..etc..etc.

Fact of the matter is, Devil popped up when I criticised remarks made by WWEJedi, recommending government intervention as a solution to a Market problem (a clear indication of my capitalist bona fides) with a tired old canard about Nazis being a shortening of the german for National Socialist.. the convoluted logic of this, is that the Nazis were not actually right wing at all, but communists!.. because the word 'Socialist' appears in the name.
This is important to most right wingers because it solves at a stroke, any negative connotations by association, if one of the most infamous, fundamentalist right wing political organisations in history, can be presented as Commies, rather than right wing.. it is also utterly transparent revisionism.

Interestingly there was a rather similar distancing from the Cheney.. sorry, Bush.. neoconservative administration once it became clear what a kingsize, political FUBAR Iraq had become.. all of a sudden lots of right wingers on forums were once again very offended to be called right wing and/or associated with neoconservativism/ neoliberalism / neolibertarianism.. or whatever it is calling itself this week.

As a capitalist I find it slightly pointless, to get lectured by fundamentalists like Devil (as he does every time I post anything in a thread with a political dimension), just because I don't subscribe to Paliban dogma.. especially when Chronos1919 was making much more cogent points.

Fact is, this dispute appears to have been brewing since prior to July 2014, when the previous six year contracts ran out (one would presume negotiations had begun a reasonable period prior to the expiry date, in an attempt to avoid disruption).
Both the management and the unions in this case, appear to have entirely too much power over the US economy, with approx 40% of US container traffic going through Long Beach alone and the Pacific Maritime Association controls no less than 29 ports along the West Coast.. those are exactly the sort of percentages, that tend to cause monopolistic practises on both sides.. and monopolies are imho, an abomination, because they distort the market.

One of the few important roles of government is to prevent over mighty, 'too big to fail', monolithic organisations attempting to subvert and re-invent the market to suit their own narrow and subjective business interests.. that applies to legislation covering both corporate and union activity.. hope that clarifies.
 
Howbout closing the thread, it's not like discussing the issue would help with you getting your Statues faster, if you want 1st hand news just read the newspaper.
