Like many said many more SW offerings with 12" figures from 2 companies, Statues/Busts from 3 companies, Props and tons of toys , plus all the other random stuff. There seems to be a lot less Marvel offerings so more demand and the total ES of most of the Marvel are less the just EX ES of the SW items

Yup! Stick to stocks and bonds for investing.

Thats where I stand.

Ok, now I agree with the fact that snaggin up all the exclusive pieces JUST to flip this and make a $ (while TRUE collectors are trying to get) is kinda.... lame. But I ACTUALLY work in the securities industry :sleep

I'd MUCH rather try to invest in things like THIS as opposed to dealing with an office job..... :sleep

And the number one reason why (as Shai eloquently states) "does everything Sideshow Star Wars don't go up in value ???"

Survey Says:

Saturation.

There are simply too many ways for people to get their Star Wars fix and it isn't just a Sideshow issue - it's across the entire spectrum. There are niches within niches within niches as Lucasfilm doles out licensing rights that seem to get so specific that one company can release 1/4 scale statues and another can release 1/4 scale figures. Then there's the limitations of those licensing rights to specific regions - so not only do we get 1:6 figures from Sideshow in the States, but 1:6 figures from Medicom in Japan. Both Attakus and Gentle Giant can make statues in different countries and so can Sideshow, as long as they have real clothing and accessories. Starting to see where I'm going here?

There used to be a time when Star Wars collecting was all about toys and action figures. Now there are just as many, if not more, high end items available for Star Wars collectors in every part of the hobby. If you're into it, they want to sell it to you: R2-D2 home projectors for the theater enthusiast, life-size R2's for prop enthusiast, R2 action figures for the kiddies, 1:6 R2's for the grown-up kiddies, R2 USB hubs for the computer geeks ... you get the idea.

You name it and the niche for the license is sold, owned and produced.

There's a point of saturation that can be reached whereby if everything is special, then nothing is special.

I guess maybe I'm in the minority, but I generally prefer that things don't go up in value. Having the older things in a line be sky-high in price makes it hard for newcomers to start collecting the line, which is ultimately not good for a line's future. And if things go up in value drastically, you feel like you have to buy them right when they're released, even if it isn't something that you love, or even if you can't really afford it, since if you wait it'll be out of your price range.

Sideshow's problem is that their pieces not only don't go up in value, they tend to drop in value on the secondary market, so you feel like a dope for having paid full price.

The Marvel stuff is so valuable because the ES (for most of their pieces) is attactive to collectors/flippers, especially when you get into the real obscure and pointless ^^^^ like a Statue with a Camera or a nice belt or some ridiculous paint scheme.

It's downright hilrarious when you look some of the pieces that are classified as Grails.

I mean.....WTF is a "Negative Zone Spidey?".... An ES of 75 pieces, Holy Crap... that changes everything. Collectors are all of a sudden Spidey fans and need this piece in their collection because only 75 people in the WORLD can truly own one. :banana

Overall, the SW line is great and seems to be getting better now that SSC is releasing EU characters. For the most part the quality/likeness is there for the characters that I'm interested in. If they appreciate in the next few years fine....if not,..fine.

People in this hobby for investment really need to open their eyes.
exactly... if the Doom PF or Hulk PF had as many pieces as some of the SW items they wouldn't cost as much as a car. and the negative zone spiderman...lol, because until it was released i had never seen nor heard of "negative zone" because i'm not the Marvel super freak. and i'm 100% certain that if i managed to get one i would have to take 20 minutes to explain the negative zone story to everyone that saw it on the shelf only to see their head shake when i said its worth a lot of money because there are less than 100 in the world.

My thread was very legitimate...I wanted a serious discussion about it....Now my last comment was obviously to make me laugh...I see that those taking offense here are the Newb who really dont know me well....Your foolish attempt to mock me while I kiss the greatness that is the Hulk PF make me enjoy this community and the reaction of some of its member even more...

Unfortunately for those who dont get it and dont like my playful nature,I'm here since forever and will probably still be here when you wont visit this board anymore....I'm also Darklord Dave's cousin.

Really? And I for one think Shai has a valid question that even I have often wondered about. I know people have mentioned over saturation but I believe that there are too many options for SW fans or any fan for that matter to collect. I mean you can pick probably about 25 different companies and see how even they cross each other when it comes to product type. I blame LFL for giving any company the SW "brand" which in turn drives down the demand a little for certain types of collectibles. Also do you guys think edition size has anything to do with it? Also this thread is more interesting than all of the wacky "what if SSC made" or "where are my (insert name) dollie?" threads out there. And if I could rate this thread...*****.

noone thinks its because the SW prequels sucked balls?? I love the original 3 but after the prequels my interest plumeted...I took a hit on almost every SW PF I have ever owned....cant even get retail...What Lucas did to SW is the same that Mcfarlane did to action figures....both should be shot....hey Shai I think I just passed you on the ^^^^ list..lol..marvel retains value because of the great movies that have come out, the amazing comics...it is a great time for Marvel....its about time DC woke up...started with Batman Begins....cant wait till Dark Knight....its going to be awesome...

first off, you've got to wonder why anyone would have that gif of jackson eating popcorn...:horror

second, i have recently seen a newb get totally BASHED for asking what something was worth. the basic reaction from the gang mentality was, 'you shouldn't be buying collectibles for resale value, but because you like them. so it shouldn't matter if they go up in value.' i think the same response fits here as well. your serious discussion is a sad excuse for the real reason this thread was started..."why did i buy so many sw collectibles. i can't sell them now because there's no interest. damn, flipping sure is complicated." :lol :lol :lol

The editions are way too high for the SW stuff. I heard from a good source, that SS makes the editions high for SW so they can keep the Marvel editions lower, thus still making quota. So basically they say, "drop the Thor edition by 1000 and add that 1000 to the PF The Biker Scout." Sucks for SW fans. Also the exclusive Thor has the same edtion as PF Ex. Asajj Ventress. And Thor 1000x more popular.

name your source or everyone will think your statements are BS! :lol

LOL!

Just an observation: I've noticed in ebay listings that are only offered to USA ONLY often sell for much less than global listings. Perhaps this is a reason why they tend to lose value from their retail prices; less customer interest.

I always allow international shipping and that has made a huge difference. One on piece I put a insane buy it now (30% higher then the highest ending one) and it was gone in maybe 4 hours to an intl buyer. I was shocked , when I went back and looked all the others sold were US only.

This is a little vague.

How are you gauging the popularity between Thor and Asajj? Both EX versions are sold out.

Shipping large figures international sucks.
