Yea that was my assumption of the gang of Dreds.
I lump Monkeywrench into the same group as Thrasher, Zarana and Zandar. I like them OK, but they aren't essential Dreadnoks to me in the way that Zartan, Buzzer, Ripper, and Torch are.
Also, isn't it kind of weird that early on, the guys at Hasbro would come up with a biker gang led by a color-changing master of disguise to help these evil terrorists fight a group of military specialists. I can't imagine GI Joe without Zartan, of course, but it seems a bit strange if you think back on it.

I never really liked the Dreadnoks that much as a kid. I had Torch and Ripper but I still remember them to be pegwarmers back in the day. The Thunder Machine was awesome though.

Yep have them all and still have them all to this day, they were my favorite group to get all together. I did like Thrasher and his vehicle that he came with, had them all riding on the side edges all the time.

Man u know what as a kid that Thunder Machine was the hardest vehicle to get for me also. I think I found it one day at a Venture whenever we were going outta town for something.

I remember seeing the Swampfire waaaay after it first came out, though. Probably because it didn't come with a figure (what the hell, Hasbro?). I also remember seeing Zandar and Zarana on the pegs well into 1988, 1989. It's kind of weird that they were so unpopular. I always liked Zandar.

I got the variants as a kid because I spotted the Zarana being different with and without ear rings, I did have a lot of doubles back in the day, now that I think about it. Never had the Swampfire thing, I guess i didn't get it because it didn't come with a fig. The thinking of a 6-7 year old

The Dreadnok bike was insane, that thing was huge compared to the figures. I think it was the only Nok vehicle I had besides Zanzibar's air skiff. I remember I almost got the Swampfire and Monkey Wrench (who was the boxart) at a Lionel's once, but changed my mind at the register. I probably would've bought more Noks as a kid f I had Zartan, but alas I never got him. Things has changed since then though!

Those Joe Muggs are terrible!
For the most part, I agree, but I have to have the Zartan!
