I love Elvis Costello, but don't personally classify him as punk. He had some of that aggression and the anti-establishment sensibility, but that was part of much of the new wave. Gets pretty messy though when you start trying to draw lines around genres. But if you want to get into a new wave discussion in another thread, I'm game :D New wave is one of my very favorite period/genres of music to this day.

I also dig the Jam, English Beat, early Police,* and some other (primarily) English bands that are pretty difficult to pigeonhole in one genre or another.

*the Police are in my top 5 bands ever, and, I believe, rank #1 in the world in terms of bands writing catchy songs you don't get tired of.

Yeah, don't get me started on new wave and post-punk. :lol

I saw the Police on the Synchronicity tour in 1984. Tickets were a whopping $15! :horror

Here's a little old school NYHC....anyone who is a SW fan might like the intro to this one...:lol

Damn. I saw their, uh, reunion tour :lol Had a friend that got us suite tickets that were probably the equivalent of, oh, $350-500 a piece :lol

Yeah, Sting, Summers, and Copeland were no doubt laughing themselves all the way to the bank :D Those weren't typical tickets, but pricey suites. I suspect regular tickets were more like $50-75, which is still overpriced in my mind, but pretty conventional nowadays for an old fogey band.

Those guys were awesome when I saw them, btw.

I'd love to make it to this one day, but I know what would happen... Drink and party till I puke then pass out. :(

Lagwagon :lol I haven't even thought of that band in years. Ah the memories.

I'm a big DEVO fan and own a bunch of their 7"s.

Time to break out the vinyl.

Anybody wanna buy some very limited Fugazi 12" records or ISIS?? Jk I can't ever sell those.

I would buy them, only to smash them to pieces, as is the true punk way. I heard once from a friend that he was at a Fugazi concert and the audience were all chanting for him to play some Minor Threat songs, and Ian McKay told them all to "grow up." I thought that was pretty unpunk of him. . .particularly considering that Minor Threat >>>>> Fugazi But maybe it was the most punk thing of all. . .?

Side note on Devo, I once heard one of their members talking about Weird Al's parody of Devo--"Dare to Be Stupid," which many geeks know from the Transformers animated movie. The guy said that he was kind of pissed at Weird Al for it, because he distilled Devo perfectly with that song, and exposed them for what they really were :lol

You act as if that's not a good thing?

While camping last summer with my buddies I finally passed out due to all the whiskey, beer and pot I had over a three day span.... Right in the dirt, right when it started to rain. I wouldn't move till my frinds forced me to to get out of the rain, like an hour later. I took two steps, puked my ****ing guts out then hopped up to my feet and crashed in my tent. :lol

Lagwagon is still a favorite of mine. I gotta listen to them now! I'm feeling all nostalgic. :lol
