What's the taxi and public transportation situation like around there?
Would it be a bad idea to take public transport with hundreds of dollars worth of Star Wars junk in your arms? Hey, I come from Denver/Boulder where most everyone, even in the bad neighborhoods will normally leave you alone.

Taxi will cost you a ton since getting out of there in car can be a nightmare and with the meter running for sitting time wow. I would take the train and get a hotel outside the downtown area. But if you plan to do that ask about the area.

Here is the map of the trains. https://www.mta.net/riding_metro/riders_guide/rail_info.htm

Off the blue line Pico station is a couple blocks away and the 7th St Metro Center is maybe 15 min walk. I cant see there being any issues in the area if you walk since police presence is high in the area. On the Metro I would not see an issue either since I would say most of the locals will be on the trains too.

long beach is close enough, you should try to take the train.
I will unless I can use some contacts to park in the area. From long Beach its a straight shot up the blue line.

One thing was certain though, it was a rare opportunity to see so many Star Wars collectibles in the same place at the same time. Many of which were items that I had no idea of or thought were mearly myths. I browsed most of the dealers area much more like a casual gallery viewer than a as a shopper. Much more of my time was spent around the licensed distributors booths, in panels, hanging out with friends from previous Celebrations and forums, or roaming the halls checking costumes or other activities and displays. Oh, and of course, waiting in line.

Yeah seeing all those collectibles in the same place sounds cool. BTW, what're all the lines for? Autographs? Panels?

At C3 there were lines for every thing. The L.A convnetion center is a lot bigger so hopefully traffic will be moved quicker. Hopefully.

Actually, one of the longest lines I was stuck in was to get in and out of the rain.
Seriously.

They were trying to feed about 20,000 people through a single doorway about 3 feet wide. Evidently, all the other doors had to be available for exits in case of fire.
All the while, I could see children in t-shirts catching Gen-Con induced pneumonia that they could bring home as souvenirs.

Another time, on Friday night, I was actually with Ray Park, his wife and child and a couple of Master Replicas staff members and we had to walk about two blocks to use another entrance because Gen-Con decided to close a skyway entrance that was being used for 2 days previous. Security would not budge. Now I can see them turning me away, but Ray Park?

Yep....the most miserable day of all..... I seriously about gave up being a fan while waiting in that line. It was a sight to see, all these people standing in the rain for a movie they really loved when they were a kid...

but man were they pissed off.... I was too....:monkey4 :monkey4 :monkey4

Can't go to either next year, I'll be freshly moving out of state, and besides the money, won't have the time. Besides, I'm too far east to make the trip west twice! As long as I can buy the SS exclusives via non-attendee I'm cool. I went to SDCC this year, and had fun, but honestly not as cool as I dreamd, still glad I did it.

I remember waiting in the rain Friday morning and I kept sitting my backpack down. I was constantly checking to make sure my dad's video camera wasn't getting wet only to find out later that the magazines I brought to read (while waiting in lines) got soaked.

Saturday morning, I was up at 4:30 for the Lucas panel and was lucky enough to be under the protection of the Hyatt's driveway, but I was at the end of the line where it turned around so I was constantly being whipped by the wind. It was so cold (36 degrees or something) for someone from the desert.

I got sick once I got home, and I remember reading about a bunch of other people getting sick too.

I too waited in that damn line out in the rain for well over 2 hours(thankfully we brought umbrellas) and it was downright miserable, but fortunately I didn't get sick from it. I'm glad I went, but the lines were so bad it almost ruined the entire experience for me. I don't know if I'll go to L.A. for C4 because I fear it might be just as bad if not worse. Still on the fence.

I was there too! Stuck in the wind at the front edge of the driveway, near the street corner. Except I started much earlier. Actually, I spent the whole night outside in line, but that wasn't my original intention.

My hotel was near the airport and after the Master Replicas, 501st, and private parties, I was too drunk to drive to my room. So in my intoxicated state I decided that it would be better to just to line up rather than risk a DUI or accident and then sleep through the Lucas panel.

I lined up at about midnight about 100 people back in the non-fan club line on the east side. I had a fan-club badge, but that line was farther away and the non-fan club line was in a dry location.
Originally, we were under the north side convention center awning, but some GenCon rep decided we would be better off out in the cold and rain of the east entrance.
Then at about 4am, we saw a bunch of security people usher a couple thousand people to the Hyatt but they didn't do jack for us. Finally the security guard that was assigned to us got through to whoever was in chanrge and the response was "Oh, yeah, we forgot that we had seperated everyone into two lines. So just put the people that were waiting in line since yesterday evening in the back of the new line we just formed where new people are arriving with warm dry clothes and half a nights sleep."

To add insult to injury, I missed the first panel and had to wait even longer, but was close to the front of the line for the second panel. However, instead of seating people in line by filling the middle sections first, they sat everyone by rows first so I was assigned a seat in the front corner where you couldn't even see the giant TV screen let alone the stage. By then I was fed up, and my hangover bad attitude was starting to kick in so I stood up, rallied a couple of dozen other people who were in line since the day before and marched to the very middle of the middle section and plopped down in center seats about a dozen rows back. We left empty seats in front of us, and when we were told to move by the two poor volunteers that were assigned to our section, they got an earful by 20-30 people and gave up. So at least the seats weren't too bad.

Later in the day, while I was a walking zombie with a hangover and only cold cat-naps in the lat 36 hours, I met up with a couple of my friends from Colorado (home) that I had been partying with the night before (and was supposed to drive home). They took a cab back to the airport hotel, got up at about 9am grabbed a bus to downtown and as they enterred the convention center a 501st trooper asked if they were looking for the Lucas line. They figured they would miss Lucas because of getting drunk, sleeping in, and skipping the line. Needless to say, they said "sure, where's the Lucas line" and were pretty much escorted into the 3rd panel without any waiting in line and sat only about 10 rows and one section over from where I was. :duh

Yeah, its up on the site.

Hate to bring this up but, do you think Sideshow would have a C4 exclusive? I seriously hope not since one convention figure a year is bad enough, but another would be too much. I guess I could live with it being another Endor Trooper :monkey3

I don't think they will but I wouldn't be shocked either. I'll be getting it if they do it.

I wonder if there will be a star wars character key exclusive to the celebration. i would probably think so. grab 2 and sell one on the fleabay to fund the other stuff that's now too expensive......does that make me scum?

I'm in Burbank CA and am only about 15 minutes from the LA Con Center. I was planning on just driving. I'd think that there will be plenty of parking. I mean the Stapes Center is right there. When I go to the SDCC there's always parking under the Con if you get there at 6 or 7 am. I'll try it the 1st day and if it's total madness I'll take the train from Studio City to LA.

I may end up going to C4 just because I've missed out on all three prior Celebrations and I really don't want to miss this one, as I will assume this will be the last one. There will always be SDCC every year.

Please I don't need to go to SDCC when I have Dragon*Con here.

Turbo, you have never been to conventions in the area have you. At E3 the lots that are $10 for games at the Staples Center were getting $30. Take the train.

I agree with Mfoga, if you are in the position to, take the train. That's what I'm doing. the only bad part is it will take a while to get there and to get back.
