Recently, why there are only Sandman’s and Fables’ Statueson the market?

Hi, guys. Is everybody okay?

I would like to get your opinion on this post.

Last year, I decided to start a Vertigo Comics’ statue collection. So far I have bought the following pieces:

As you can see, so far I have only bought Sandman related stuff. Because of that, I decided to search statues from others Vertigo Comics series. For my surprise, I have only find a few of them. I’m gonna list the ones I have found so far:

Now, if you decide to count how many Vertigo Comics’ statues have been released so far, you will get:
- Sandman: 34 statues
- Fables: 4 statues
- Swamp Thing: 2 statues
- Hellblazer: 1 statue
- Preacher: 1 statue
- Transmetropolitan: 1 statue

As you can see, Fables does not have a lot more statues than Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, Preacher or Transmetropolitan. However, if you look closely at the list, you will notice that the last Vertigo Statue made, other than Sandman or Fables characters one, was produced in 1999. In other words, since 1999, we don’t have any other Vertigo Statue other than the ones related to Sandman or Fables series.

So, because of that, I ask you guys: why DC Comics stopped making the others Vertigo Comics series statues, focusing only on Fables and Sandman?

Simple really, sales. When I manged a comic shop anything Sandman sold, almost instantly and Fables at the time had the biggest following of any vertigo book out. So sales of books = more merchandise, including statues. Not to say the series aren't deserving, they are but they aren't as popular by far. So unless there's a spike in sales for other Vertigo properties you probably won't see more statues....I did start a thread for the new Sandman statue by the way if you want to check that out. Should be on tne DC forum not that far down

You beat me to the punch. That pretty much sums it up. Unfortunately, they just sell whatever they think they're going to make the most money off of.

Yep, absolutely true and thats why if you look at the superhero stuff theres 5 thousand Batman statues and 14 Aquaman statues. Batman sells and they know it. Aquaman has never received the push needed to become that kind of revenue generator. Sad but economics is the deciding factor.

That's really sad. I really wanted to see some "100 Bullets" statues. Oh well, I guess it will be very hard to see that happen. =/

It all comes down to Sales Fables was a great read and still sells well but there was never enough interest in the statues or mini busts. I'm amazed that Preacher only got the one statue.I guess we have to wait and see if it takes off on AMC like the Walking Dead did first.
