I like to customize, so I go with PC over MAC. Actually, I use Linux to full customization, but that takes too much effort, so I stick with XP Pro with my Alienware Superman Desktop Themes (which is AMAZING).

First rule of using a Mac: It's "Mac" or "mac", never "MAC".

So you feel pretty confident that a refurbished Mac will be without problems associated with the fact that it has been refurbished?
Also what are your thoughts on Applecare. Generally I don't believe in extended warranties.

They test it well. You'll be okay. My friend has a refurbished laptop (MacBook Pro) and they take on more abuse that a static machine which would be a desktop like an iMac or PowerMac Pro.
Either way, you should be good, and as for the extended warranty? I haven't purchased one for my last machine. I did for my G3 iMac in 2000 and that was 250 bucks not well spent. lol I NEVER had to go into my warranties. If something breaks down it usually happens in the first year which the machine is covered for, especially the first week.
It depends on how much the peace of mind is worth to you. Honestly I don't like buying into extended warranties unless it's cellphones or laptops because they are constantly on the move.

Refurbished is the way to go with Macs. It's cheaper and you still get the full warranty.
