You're kidding me. No nomination for Tom Hanks in Captain Philips?? He should have WON for that last scene alone.

You preferred his performance over Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave?

Admittedly I haven't seen that. Or any of the other performances for that matter. I'm just really surprised Hanks isn't on there.

Like Dark Knight pointed out, there have been some great performances and somebody was always going to be disappointed.

True. Hanks has always been a favorite of mine, I think the hype around him is well-earned. But I guess these other guys deserve a shot.

I love Hanks as well. It's just a very tough year I am afraid.

That really surprised me. He was in two roles I could have seen him nominated for and didn't for either.

You've seen The Wind Rises then? Hayao Miyazaki is probably the greatest animation director of all time.

I actually have. One of my old University friends is a Japanese Animation nut and showed it to me. It was very good, but Frozen was very VERY good.

Biggest surprise for me as I look over the noms again, is the the exclusion of Emma Thompson as Best Actress for Saving Mr. Banks.

I'm glad Leo and Jonah Hill both got noms for Wolf. Suprised that Gandolofini got a nod as well isn't the category usually only 5 actors?

Ummm... well, it's not like Oscar was unbiased for the last 5 years or so.

While I think the movie overall is pretty bad I agree that Hanks did a phenominal job and deserved to be nominated at least.
