Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The movie version is officially the 8th Doctor.

I meant, of course, Sylvester McCoy's 7th Doctor at the begining of the movie (before he regenerates into the 8th Doctor). In other words, the version without the question marks and the longer hair.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I say give me both. Enough time passes to make them different enough. All I know is that when all is said and done I want a nice line up of 1 through 10 (by that point maybe 11 :lol) on my shelves.

It would be awesome to have all 10 Doctors and I've read that 7 & 8 are already confirmed as being in the works so if that's true it's just a matter of negotiating with the estates of William Hartnell,Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Great news! So far then we have confirmed 4 through 10, companions for 9 and 10.. but no others. I want my Romana II dammit! So far though this line looks to be the line to watch.

Character Options have said that no Classic companions are in the works YET.
I think they're just waiting to see how well the early waves do before going full throttle with all the different companions or minor characters. Should things go well enough I think a couple of "Companions" four packs to go with the 4th & 5th Doctor figures would be cool to see,

4th Doctor
Sarah Jane Smith
Leela
Romana I
Romana II

5th Doctor
Tegan
Nyssa
Adric
Turlough

This line has so much potential and I'm going to be doing all I can to support it,even if it means dropping some of the Nu-Who line and other things I collect.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Just paid a quick visit to the world's worst fan website - Outpost Gallifrey - to find that the mods have deleted, not just the photos but all discussion of the photos and the sad, pathetic excuses for fandom who post there are supporting this action!

Yes, they're applauding the fact that they're not allowed to discuss the new toys!

I'm stunned. I knew OG was a disgusting little totalitarian fiefdom for its owners, and that any fans who join it agree to be the owners little ^^^^^es, but I didn't realise the posters there were quite so institutionalised.

I don't know the situation - but if these are photos are not approved I can see OG trying to keep their relationship with Character Options by deleting the pics. Although I'm not sure why they'd delete discussion of the pics.

If a pic got out early and SSC didn't want it spread around we would delete the pic from here. However I can't see how you can expunge the knowledge that a pic exists.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I can't understand why everything has to be hushed up at this stage, they are meant to be released in May and IMO it's about time pics were shown and that goes for the 2008 Nu-Who lineup too. The BBC are obviously dictating what Character Options do but I don't get why they're being so secretive as anyone who's intrested enough in the franchise to buy action figures will surely know what characters are in the new series anyway. And why should the same policy apply to the Classic figures?

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

There are two posters over there, Mr. Fusion and... I forget the other one, who work for CO. I guess it made them look bad that the pics were leaked. They didn't seem too pissed but they were a bit annoyed I guess.

Doctorwhotoys edited the photos and even put their own watermark on them. :lol

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

CO big secrecy really is a bit insane. The BBC wouldnt let anyone talk about ANYTHING shown at the Doctor Who booth at TF. NDA's all around. You would think that when a line is as huge as Who is there is no such thing as bad press. 99% of the time no one knows of a new figure until it hits eBay. I could see if there were rights issues but at this point with a possible May release these are probably getting ready to ship to retailers. BBC and CO need to be a bit more forth coming, quash rumors and let people know what's coming so finances can be planned accordingly instead of buying what you find when you find it in case you never see it again.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The figures look fantastic about time the Depol figures got a update. The $th doctors got a cool scarf and sweet swapable heads.
Always like the look of McCoy from the start of the movie really liked the way the 7th and 8th doctor dressed in classic victorian outfits.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The other one who used to post over there was "The Character".

And i completely agree that all this secrecy is utterly ridiculous.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I'm intrested to see how the Classic figures are going to be marketed, the Nu-Who line is primarily aimed at kids but I suspect most kids aren't aware that Doctor Who existed prior to 2005 and aren't likely to go back and watch them on DVD as the old shows wouldn't look "cool" enough to keep them intrested. So with that in mind I'm wondering whether the Classic figures will only be available through specialist stores like Forbidden Planet.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

There was a guy who used to post over there who claimed that the reason CO behave the way they do is all down to the BBC merchandising department being totally out of their depth and not knowing how the toy industry works - so they insist on obsessive secrecy about everything, even stuff that doesn't spoil future episodes the show (we all know what Tom Baker looks like, right?).

I wasn't sure how plausible this was until 'The Character', who seems to run the line, posted a really angry post denying everything...which made me think it was true!

A shame, because the classic figures look great. I hope they do the first three Doctors.

It's a bit ridiculous but as long as the figures get released there's no real harm done aside from a bit of grumbling from impatient collectors. I certainly don't want a situation to arise like with the Product Enterprises 12" Tom Baker & Cybermen figs where protos were shown then they ended up being released as statues. I expect the first 3 Doctors are in the works but it depends on whether Character Options can negotiate successfully with the estates of the actors. One idea I had for the figures of the first 2 Doctors was to make ltd edition variants of both in "black & white" colors to reflect how they appeared to TV viewers.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The Character just popped up at DWF.com and said that the plans for Bessie and the classic TARDIS have been shelved indefinitely. :(

I am not sure if the TARDIS he was referring to was the blue box or the Console. I can live without a Bessie, but I would REALLY love a classic TARDIS Console.

Intresting stuff,I would've bought both. Assuming the TARDIS was a playset,I think it's still possible that we'll get the police box as they can just repackage the Nu-Who one with a different decal on the interior.

That's a great idea - I would buy both versions.
