German Bike with Sidecar

Here’s a video/slideshow of the two 1/6 Last Crusade German motorcycles, which I shot on a local trail, Interspersed with the bike chase footage from the movie.

By coincidence, the place where I took these pictures is about 30 miles south from where the movie motorcycle chase sequence was filmed in Northern California. Below are comparison shots between the 1:1 movie German motorcycle and sidecar, and my 1/6 version. Of course, Indy and Henry Sr. are Sideshow’s, with a little modification and some paint touch-up. The recipe for the motorcycle is below the photos.

To replicate the Russian-made Dnepr that was done-up to look like a German BMW bike with a sidecar, I modified the front-fender and sidecar fender to be shaped like those on the movie bike. As nice as they looked, I still had to remove the support struts and brackets that came on the 21C front fenders; I did this for both the sidecar and solo pursuit motorcycle. the I scratch-built the other hardware like the fake-looking machine gun mount on the movie sidecar and two knobs, one on top of the sidecar and the other, in-between the handlebars. I scratch-built the top and rear signal lights on the sidecar fender. I made decals to replicate the proper dagger-in-shield emblem that appeared on the right side and rear of the sidecar. I also used decals for the license plates and the headlight. Details for the Pursuit bike are in the following post.

Similarly, here are comparison shots between the 1:1 movie German pursuit motorcycle and my 1/6 version. The figure is made up of Dragon, DiD and BBI parts. Sourcing the goggles seemed to be the hardest piece and in the end I used the British goggles found on the BBI Douglas Caldwell figure that closely resembled the movie goggles; maybe this had something to do with how they sourced for goggles for the movie. The recipe for the bike mod is below the photos.

For this bike, I took the 21C Motorcycle with no sidecar and cut the front fender to resemble those on the Honda dirt bike used in the movie. I replaced the front forks with thick bendy drinking straws to replicate the rubber fork boots on the 1:1 bike. I replaced the tailpipe with the perforated housing from a 1/6, WWI Spandau machine gun. I added bedrolls and other equipment to resemble the stowage on the movie bike, which I thought looked sloppy, so I took license to improve these a bit. I made decals to match the numbers of the license plates of one of the bikes in the movie.

Wow, they look absolutely amazing. Would love to see some 'studio' shots and close ups.

Nice job on these..... one of these days I'd like to build up a bike with Indy and Sr.. always wanted to display it next to a mock up of the directional sign

Whoa! I had to do a double take because I thought those were actual screen shots! :clap

Amazing work! It was difficult to tell which parts were from the movie and which were pics of your figures. Excellent work on the Nazi motorcyclist as well.:clap
