If I could only keep one statue that I have, it would be Gandalf on Shadowfax.

If I could only buy one statue that I don't have, it would be Sam and Bill.

I want to know where all you guys are finding these $1,000 Cave Trolls.

I will take a few of them! :naughty

For my 2 cents: Forget your one piece and with your $1000 get Sauron RWOS and GOSF and your collection will be amazing. Use a birthday wish or something and get Gandalf the Grey would be my only other suggestion.

Good Luck!

Jesse

I was very choosy with the SSW, and own only the 9 Fellowship busts and the statues of Strider, Legolas, Boromir and GTG.

But the one statue I did wish I owned is the ever-popular Sam and Bill...

It would be very difficult to let go of my cave troll, but if I could only keep one then I would have to go with RWOS.

My suggestion is to save up $700 or so and get RWOS and GOSF. You can get a RWOS for around $500 shipped, and GOSF for around $200 shipped.

I'm keeping both of those, Sauron, and the Rivendell and Barad-Dur giclees. I'm selling the rest in favor of SW and LOTR 1/4's plus a few select Cinemaquettes. I would also probably keep the Cave Troll if I had it. The Balrog and Stone Trolls are both great sculpts also, but they're way too small.

I got a damaged cavetroll for $1100 last year. His arm was off but I repaired him stronger then new (the miracle of Gorilla Glue). Awesome statue. I have him and Sauron, I've sold or am selling everything else off. If you don't mind a little work and a hit in value keep looking for damaged items, great way to get some great pieces

It would be either the Wiki or RWOS. I passed on both the first time and I have been kicking myself eversince.

Great views! Thanks. By investment, I meant a piece that would most likely hold it's value.
Thanks for the help and please continue to list. It's really interesting to see everyone's favorite.:D

By that description, I'd boil it down to only two pieces:

CAVE TROLL - This is hands down, the most impressive LOTR statue. Period.
It does honestly blow the original Balrog out of the water, due to the CT's
greater size, detail, pose, and overall realism. The Balrog loses points due
to it's lack of SIZE, lack of FULLY SPREAD WINGS, and less-than-realistic
paintjob. Cave Troll has it all.

*Side note 1 - If only there were a BIG Balrog statue with fully spread wings..... :D

*Side note 2 - the ONLY statue that could have been better than the Cave Troll
would have been a fully armored Battle Troll, and that was screwed up by
making it mini-me size so it lacks the size needed to be one of the "big boys"

The only other competitor would be the RWoS. It is as "iconic" a LOTR
statue as you'll ever find, and it captures the books and films perfectly.

AND both these pieces will hold their value for the long term, Cave especially,
due to the low edition size on him.

All the above is of course, my lowly and humble opinion. :peace

I agree the RWOS is up there with the CT and Balrog for #1 contender but I'd have to totally disagree that the CT is hands down better than the Balrog. Of course this is my humble opinion.

I love the balrog, in either scale, don't get me wrong, but when I look at the 300 dollars spent initially, the bigger bang for the buck is purely size based for me. The sculpt on the Balrog is excellent, and I would easily pay 600 bucks to have a balrog that was scaled to be around the size of the cave troll. I think the poses on both statues are amazing, but the Cave troll is so impressive just by being so ginormous.:google

Well, since you only have $1K, and you want to capture the essence of the movie, I would definitely choose Ringwraith/Steed and Gandalf/Shadowfax. This way you have one good, one evil. They are of comparable size and offset each other perfectly.

and even have enough left over for Sauron........... :naughty

I knew that would get a reply from you Josh!:wacky

My picks would be:
1.Cave Troll
2.Sam and Bill
3.RWOS

Gandalf on Shadowfax

or

Ringwraith & Steed

followed closely by Sauron

Well, the Balrog is the bestest to me but that has nothing to do with how much I paid. I just really really dig that statue.

Here's my top 10 based on what I own.
1. Balrog
2. Sauron
3. Cave Troll
4. Morgul Lord
5. Elessar
6. Ringwraith On Steed
7. Strider
8. Sam & Bill
9. Gandalf The White On Shadowfax
10. Gandalf The Grey

That's cool I mean everybody loves Sauron while I think he is just alright.

I've seen several that aren't real into Sauron but to me personally he really does rival the Balrog for tops on my list.
