Was thinking this would be starting soon. Then I saw it was April and was bummed. This looks really good.

Yeah, the new ads they've been showing look great. Just three more months to wait. :(

I think there are 10 episodes, Ween.

Edit: Or 13. :)

The first season is 10 episodes, but hopefully future seasons will expand to 12 or 13 in order to cover the increased length of the following books. HBO screened a 15 minute preview to the press at a recent event and the early impressions are very positive. We're also supposed to be getting a new trailer in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, there's an official blog that posts behind the scenes info, including set photos and videos on the weapons, fights, costumes, etc. All of that can be found here:

Uh, whoa.

Now that's a badass trailer. I got chills...

Woah, that trailer was awesome. I seriously can't wait 'til April!

Lets hope Martin can finish the last two books in the series and that TV series is a success.

Doubt the final two (possibly three) books will be finished within the next few years. Like you, I do hope he's able to finish the series (he is no spring chicken after all). The first book was published in 1996 and book 4 was just published in 2005. Book 5 is still being worked on and at this point maaaay see publication this year (though I'd be really surprised). The last few books have some chapters locked in but it will be a looooong time before those get to the end point methinks.

That all said. If the series is well received, I'm guessing we'd only see up to book 3. HBO doesn't tend to stick with the higher budget shows for very long.

The first three books were awesome. Things went down hill in Book 4 and who knows how Books 5-7 will be (if they will be) so stopping after book 3 makes sense to me.

Except that book 3 ends on some really horrible cliff hangers, ha! I agree that ending with book 3 would be best all around of course.

Book 4 suffered because it was the split of about half the story of 'Dance of Dragons'. I actually liked book 4 but with the lack of half the characters (and thus half the story), it did make for a more lack luster addition to the series. But once book 5 is released that will be remedied. Then hopefully book 6 will be more cohesive once it's released.

Agreed. I really enjoyed A Feast For Crows and think the writing and characterizations are just as strong as the first three. It just gets a bad wrap because the fan-favorite POVs were held back for the fifth book. Feast should gain wider acceptance once it can be read within the context of the completed (please! please! please!) series.

I didn't dislike A Feast for Crows, but I do think that it is the weakest book in the series so far. So much happened in the first three books (especially book 3!) and then book 4 focused on only half the characters, and introduced some new ones, so the action wasn't there. Book 5 is supposed to focus on the other half of characters not in AFFC and new characters, so I'm guessing this book will be along the lines of AFFC and not have the same impact as Books 1-3 did (hope I'm wrong). Now if GRRM would just finish book 5 already. It has only been 5 years. :impatient:

Here is the latest trailer for A Game of Thrones. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing this when it premieres in April!

HBO just released another trailer for Game of Thrones tonight. These just keep getting better and better:

This is an amazing day for fans of this series. The long-awaited fifth book finally has a release date (July 12, 2011) AND a new trailer for the show was just released, easily the best so far. It's an Entertainment Weekly exclusive, so no YouTube link just yet. Seriously, this trailer is incredible:

Today is a good day! Awesome news! :rock
