Hey Guys,

I've been spending quite a while at the customs section for the past few months and I've been inspired to give it a go. I've drawn inspiration in particular from Doug (Zebraten) and Zsaszsays. Doug has been very kind to share his ideas and tips with me, and I owe it all to him for reaching this far. Considering I've never used a paintbrush in my life and haven't had any experience woodworking or customizing, I think I've done a decent job. Thanks a bunch Doug. :1-1:

Here's a glimpse of what I've been working on. I had a spare HT Indiana Jones base lying around and decide to put it to some better use. I started off by drawing the template on a paper. I went ahead and got some wooden planks, cut them to the measurements of the template and voila. Some WIPs

The base of the wood has been sanded and the sides as well. I wanted the wood to maintain the natural texture on the face and thus left it that way. I think the raw look adds a lot of character to the base.

Comments welcome. :wave

Re: 1/6 Custom Wooden Bases

Here's another one.

Bought a wallet a couple of years back which came in a metal box. Fast forward four years, I stumbled across it last month while rummaging through my stuff. I managed to dismantle it into 3 parts giving me 3 templates to work with. Here's the first template in use:

Project 2 Part2.jpg

The wood here has been sanded on both sides, to give it a smoother look. Next, I used Liquitex Gesso to prime the surface and then used acrylic paints to give it the desired look. Sealed it with liquitex Medium Gloss and Varnish. The template is around 14mm deep so I was able to fit an HT stand inside. Here's what it looks like 90% done, all that's left is to sand the sides.

I was also looking to recreate the Boating Pier at Camp Crystal lake for a Friday the 13th diorama. Here's the woodwork and painting done:

The wood used on this one is sanded on one side. Not primed and hasn't sealed yet. I pretty much nailed the colour pattern I had in mind.

Re: 1/6 Custom Wooden Bases

The second template I scoured from the wallet box. Sanded with thin grit paper, I wanted to give this dio an unfinished feel to it. Here's what it started off as:

Here's it is 90% done - Been sealed with gloss medium varnish. Just need to sand the edges now.

Some really nice stuff and I'm glad your work has paid off. Really like the look of the different types of wood finishes.

Re: 1/6 Custom Wooden Bases, Dioramas

Thanks Ted. Here's one more, going in for a wooden floorboard. I'm waiting on some supplies to make this into a dio.

Thanks Paul. My dad has seen me spend a lot of my time working on these bases over the weekend and decided to surprise me with an early Birthday gift - A Dremel 4000!
