Hi,

Attempt to enlarge a 1/6 head to 1/4 head.
I found an old stash of Hydrospan I never really used. It is over its date, but seems to be okay in the bottom of the bottles.
So I will just post some pictures here of my process. Maybe it will be helpfull for some of you.
If I fail I will just abandon it :)

Casting a head, headplay I think. Eyes have bubbles.

2 nights. The smaller details grow first. Looks a bit freaky.

So you make a cast of a head out of Hydrospan, then that cast will grow in water? That's pretty cool. It will be interesting to see if the detail is lost or not :huh

Re: Attempt to enlarge a 1/6 head to 1/4

Just came home and the sculpt died. The hair exploded. Maybe due to the old age of the hydrospan?

Lets see what happens..

Re: Attempt to enlarge a 1/6 head to 1/4

The second grew better. I think it reached its max.
It is a bit smaller than the helmeted head, but I think it is in scale:

I will try to cast it today. This is where it went wrong for me before. The retained water created air bubbles.
I will use a vasaline layer and fast silicone this time to prevent that.
Fingers crossed :)

Re: Attempt to enlarge a 1/6 head to 1/4

I reread the manual and molds that are 2-3 inches could need 2-3 weeks to reach the max.
Some of its features are still a bit strong I think.
So since the mold was 2 inches I will leave it for a couple of more days to have the inner area push out too. That might decrease the stronger features a bit.

Better to wait, right?

Oh,
This is a Jackman Wolverine that is still growing. The hair exploded, but I will let it settle for fun :)

Interesting, want to see them cast and painted.

Re: Attempt to enlarge a 1/6 head to 1/4

So I made the enlarged Hydrospan head as dry as possible and put some vasaline on it. I casted it in dragonskin fast so leaking water would influence the mold as less as possible.
Then I casted it in onyx:

I will still need to fix things and recast it, but this is the direct copy of the hydrocast head:

I have 2, so here is one with a quick spraypaint:

The neck is still to long, but for scale:

What is the best way to fic those tiny holes. I tried different things on other cast, but no great results.

If this works out, this one is next:

THat looks really COOL!Have you tried using Testors Contour Putty to fill in the small holes? Also if things come out a success will you be offering a few for sale?I'd definitely be interested in something like this!^_^

Apoxie sculpt do a 2 part paste which is great for filling little holes and stuff

Just use Tamiya putty ( air dries)... or use Bondo's Glazing and spot putty..

Thanks everyone.
I have Apoxy Sculpt and some Vallejo putty:

I hope that is a good alternative for the other suggestions. Those are difficult to get in the Netherlands :(
I will start on filling holes this evening.
That sounds wrong.
