Re: Abbott and Costello meet . . .

There are two books, that I am aware of:

"Bud and Lou the Abbott and Costello Story"

https://www.amazon.com/Bud-Lou-Abbott-Costello-story/dp/0397011954/ref=pd_sim_sbs_mov_3

"Lou's on First" Written by Lou Costello's Daughter Chris

https://books.google.com/books/about/Lou_s_on_First.html?id=rx8ieZAZY4MC

And there was a TV Movie starring Buddy Hacket and Harvey Korman

https://www.amazon.com/Bud-Lou-VHS-Harvey-Korman/dp/6302232147

Hmmmmm...something was not quite right about that. Didn't look like Korman and Hackett had much chemistry?

Re: Abbott and Costello meet . . .

I read "Lou's On First" written by his daughter, and even though it's described as a "loving homage" to Lou Costello, and intended as such, Lou really comes across as a creepy person. It is an interesting read, but it did lessen my enthusiasm to build these two figures just because their personal likability is very low. But I still like the movies! :)

The Laurel and Hardy book "Laurel and Hardy: The Magic Behind the Movies" by Randy Skretvedt and numerous Marx Brothers books all increased my desire to build figures of them, however.

Re: Abbott and Costello meet . . .

I have to agree with you Sean. "Lou's on First" was an eye opener, and Lou did not come off well in it... The death of his young son and his health issues brought out his demons.

His relationship with Abbott in real life was nothing like the Abbott and Costello we know on screen.

It is surprising that his daughter would write such an unflinching Bio of her Dad, but to her credit she seemed to want to show him as he was and not sugar coat his memory.

If nothing else... This movie proved that Buddy Hacket and Harvey Korman were no Abbott and Costello.

Sad to hear about the book...

I saw that movie, but was never a fan. Never thought it had anything to offer.

Wish we had a truly great documentary...

Re: Abbott and Costello meet . . .

If anyone is interested... There is a really touching BBC film about the end of Oliver Hardy's life and his relationship with Stan Laurel. It's really well done and shows how much the boys loved each other. It's called, simply enough...

"Stan"

Here is part one... of four:

Awesome!!! Love it the whole diorama, so cool! Now you just need the Andrews Sisters. Was the bar custom made?

Do you have to write to Project Are to inquire about the pants or are they listed somewhere (took a quick look but didn't see them).

Sean

Ok, so I had to do it...Sean, you planted the seed with your post above, and at some point I thought, well, if I find three female figures, cheap, with WAAC uniforms, I'll buy 'em. Guess what; be careful what you wish for...I found them! And the Andrews sisters have dropped in on Bud and Lou. I have to find a different (larger) space to display them (which may prove to be difficult in my house :)) but hey, for kicks and giggles here they are...singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"...

The two photos you posted yesterday really made me smile...

I have to say with the addition of the Andrew sisters you have really made your lunch counter dio come alive! I love what you did here.

After re-watching the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy scene, the only thing missing with the Andrew sisters are the Black Belts they were wearing.

Now, if you could only add Shemp Howard dressed as a Cook...

Just kidding Jerry.

Ok Jim, nice try...you made me laugh with that one...if it were up to you and Sean, I'd have to cast the whole picture!

Re: Abbott and Costello meet . . .

L & H update:

Stan's hat has been created, and a final mold is being created as we speak...Spenser's work is amazing and with the final tweaks he has made (being very responsive to final, minuscule adjustments), you will shortly see a final version of Stan and Ollie that I believe will be a defining version...clearly better than any images that exist of the boys...very close now...days? Weeks? Worth the wait!

Re: Abbott and Costello meet . . .

I've been waiting and checking and waiting...

I guess the wait is coming to an end soon! It sounds like all is going real well and we'll be getting Stan and Ollie sooner rather than later.

Thanks for overseeing this thing, Jerry! You're hard work is about to pay off for both of us.

Jim

Re: Abbott and Costello meet . . .

Ok.....so....are you ready for some unbelievable pics of Stan and Ollie? Yes, I said UNBELIEVABLE! I just received a picture of completed sculpts from Spenser. I am awaiting further marching orders from him on when and how the order thread will begin...it has been worth the wait...

You will Not be disappointed!

An order link will be posted by Spenser later this week!

Re: Abbott and Costello meet . . .

WOW! Jerry These two are magnificent!

I tried to prepare myself for the reveal... but I still am blown away!

You did a great job overseeing this project; you and Spencer have really made my jaw drop. They are must haves.

The hats are just the right designs and sit on the heads realisticly. The heads, spot on, great expressions.

When I get them I will be going for the "Sons of the Desert" look from this scene:

Thanks again, Jerry, for making these a reality.
