Well fourth if you count "The Scorpion King" but I stumbled across this on ComingSoon.net

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Release Date: August 1, 2008
Studio: Universal Pictures
Director: Rob Cohen
Screenwriter: Alfred Gough, Miles Millar
Starring: Brendan Fraser, Maria Bello, Jet Li, John Hannah, Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Wong, Luke Ford, Isabella Leong
Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Horror, Thriller
MPAA Rating: Not Available
Official Website: RobCohenTheMummy.com
Plot Summary: Jet Li plays a despotic Emperor in 50 B.C. whose evil is punished by a terrible curse laid on him by wizardress Michelle Yeoh: he and his army are turned into to terra cotta for all time; that is, unless he is re-awakened which, of course, is where the O'Connells come back into it.

The story moves to the year 1946. When we find them, Rick (Brendan Fraser) and Evelyn (Maria Bello) are retired to Oxfordshire, England, having been spies for the British during World War II. They are bored silly and welcome the offer of "one last mission" from the Foreign Office. Their assignment: courier a precious artifact back to the museum in Shanghai, China from which it was stolen.

Back to Asia: China is in turmoil but Jonathan (John Hannah) owns an Egyptian-themed bar in Shanghai. Unbeknownst to his parents, now grown-up Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford) is following in the family business as a young archaeologist on a dig in north-central China. He makes the discovery of a lifetime: the tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which has been buried for millennia. A beautiful assassin (Isabella Leong) tries to kill him to keep the location secret but Alex prevails. The Emperor's monument is transported back to Shanghai where another plot is in motion: military zealot Anthony Wong intends to awaken the Emperor and aid him in the re-conquest of China and the raising of his terra cotta army of ten thousand clay warriors.

The family is reunited and high adventure ensues: crash landings, treks thru the Himalayas, Yeti, avalanches, Shangri-la, three-headed dragons, pools of eternal life, epic battles, a shape-shifting Jet Li...

I didn't even know another Mummy film was in the works let alone that they recasted Rachael Weisz...

And where is the Mummy in that plot synopsis? :lol

A Jet Li mummy huh? That will be weird. What about Imhotep? The series seems more like Indiana Jones now than Mummy movie. It'll bomb.

They have been working on it for a while and finally announced it some months ago. They couldnt get Rachel Weisz because of schedueling conflickt which sucks. Not that it matters much anymore, i don't really have much faith in the movie but i'm gonna wait with final jugdement untill the movie comes out.

im gonna see it regardless just because i love the series. i always saw it as a newer indiana jones type of movie anyways, but it will seem really different without rachael weisz in her role. (plus she has a sweet butt)

Yea, this was announced a little ways back. I agree, it sucks no Rachel Weisz, I thought her and Fraser had good on screen chemistry in these films. Especially, the one with their son.

I thought at first Fraser wasn't even going to be in it either. I am glad he's on board.

Sounds like a winner to me. I'll miss Weisz but it isn't a deal breaker. As long as Fraser is still in it. He plays that role perfectly. Yet another movie to look forward to in '08.

Now if Hot Toys would only do a Mummy line.

I thought she had turned down the role?

Personally I like the movies, but there's a good possibility that this movie will suck.

No, she wanted to do it but she had said yes to a couple of other movies that's being made while The Mummy 3 is being made. So she had to turn it down:(

I like the first 2, but I think it stinks that Rachael Weisz wont be in this one. I will wait for the DVD.

I loved the first two but this one is definitely heading towards Stinker IMHO....recasting Weisz was a mistake.....my only hope is that we get a nice 1/6 figure of at least Rick O' Connell

I also enjoyed the first two but I agree that Rachael Weisz not being in the third one is definitely a minus.

Here's what I read:

So while the official word has been that her schedule would not allow her to return to the third film, sources close to actress have said that the script was the real reason why she did not come back.

And:

You might remember a few months ago we were the first place to break the scoop that there was trouble with Mummy 3. At the time we told you that Weisz was hesitant to take part in the third sequel because of severe problems with the script. Of course shortly after we posted that story, Universal called us to refute it. It looks like their claim that everything was fine with Mummy 3 was nothing more than PR spin. We had it right.

The same source that broke that original info to us contacted me tonight to update us on why Weisz left. Our source says, “the script is still in the same shape that it was the last time I told you about, meaning that its still crap and Weisz finally took the high road out of there.”
