Re: Article: 1/6 Hot Toys - Artist Collection - Kerberos Panzer Jäger Figure

The design of the figure is very cool and explodes with detail. However, the price increase is, IMO, no way justifiable. Scary thing is, if this sells well (and it probably will), it will signal to HT that further increases are okay. How high can a 1/6 figure go for price?! I'm not sure I want to know the answer. :horror

Why does every head sculpt have to have that same scrunched brow line?

Nice sculpt of Ed Harris though. ;)

Interview with JC Hong about the figure:
Hot Toys - Mr. JC. Hong with Mr. Takayuki Takeya.jpg
Following the official introduction of the Kerberos Panzer Jäger: 1/6th scale Protect Gear Collectible Figure from the Artist Collection yesterday which over eight artists from Japan and Korea together with our Hong Kong Production Team have joined forces for this collaboration, we are pleased to talk to our Hot Toys’ Production Director & Chief Painter, Mr. JC. Hong, to share more about this incredible and special project which is based on illustrations from the Kerberos Panzer Jäger official guidebook by Mr. Jun Suemi in 2006.

Q: How did Hot Toys get involved in this project?

JC.: This goes a few years back, I was approached by Mr. KAZ from BARQUE Inc. who owned the rights of Kerberos Saga* and asked if I was interested in making a Protect Gear figure. Our Founder Howard and I were big fans of the Kerberos Saga so we were excited to participate in this project.

Q: How long was the development for this project and what was the process like?

JC.: It has started back in 2011, so it has taken 3 years since the project began to the finished prototype we have now. Over the years, we had lots of discussions and made many adjustments to the figure. Mr. Takayuki Takeya** and his team first worked on the prototype, and then it was brought to Korea for more work. Because the prototype was a statue in the beginning, we needed to think hard on how we can fit it well with Hot Toys’ articulated figure body.

Q: How do you feel about the original design of the Protect Gear?

JC.: The design is quite amazing! Mr. Jun Suemi***, the original designer for the Kerberos Panzer Jäger Protect Gear, was a fan of medieval knight armor and he incorporated those elements into World War II German military gear which transformed into the Protect Gear you see now. Within the plot of the Kerberos Saga, this is the original design that has “inspired” the Tokyo police force to make their own Protect Gear team. I think the design itself would make an excellent action figure and also be a quite functional armor in real life.

Q: What are some of the special elements about this Protect Gear figure?

JC.: The painting technique that has been applied is quite unique. Under different lighting, you will sometimes see a more metallic look while other times see a more matte look. You will really need to see this figure in person to truly admire its beauty.

Also, the figure base is another highlight for this project. The plot of Kerberos Panzer Jäger is really a human story about how war is terrible. The government forces its people into war by dressing them up in gears, sending them to dangerous missions, and many will die fighting for their country. I want that heavy feeling of a soldier to be reflected in this figure and the diorama base really helps set that tragic of war tone and story.

Q: What are the challenges for creating this figure?

JC.: The articulations and movements were some of the biggest challenges. For example, when holding weapons, the shoulder armor’s movement may be hindered, so we created 2 layers of armor on the Protect Gear to make it easier to move the arms.

Q: Do you have other messages that you would like to say to the fans?

JC.: This Protect Gear has incorporated the many great efforts from a number of artists from Japan and Korea as well as the Hot Toys Hong Kong Production team! I hope many fans will be able to enjoy and appreciate this wonderful artistic figure!

This is very cool, and the thought of having some old school Panzer armor is nice, but I'm in the camp where I don't think I'll be having one unless they end up deeply discounted.

Also, it seems odd that this thread not in the anime section, would have totally missed it if it weren't linked from the frontpage.

Well this franchise doesn't really fall under any one category. It incorporates things from all sorts of stuff, from novels to an animated film to actual live action films.

Who cares? Over 90% of what is available for this franchise is from Manga and Anime.

They are the older Kerberos Panzer Cop, design suppose to be from the 30's-40's, while Jin-Roh & Panzer Cop suppose to be from the 50's-60's during the great recession.

This is really not a new design, been around for many years.

Where is this guy from? I've read the manga, watched Jin Roh and 2 live action movies, are there any more stories?

The price is around $280-$300, i think the artistic base adds up the price.

Don't forget Takara Kerberos was already around the $180 mark few years ago.

So far only Dragon & Medicom made the same Kerberos armor, they have quite a few different version, and not forget the normal metropolitan police armors.

Medicom are better at doing 2D cartoon characters.

Is anybody else tired of Hot Toys just remaking Japanese properties that have already been done. Dragon, Takara and Medicom have done figures of this property. I'm sure the price tag will be some outlandish price like $486-566. I was really hoping for something new but that does not seem to be where hot toys is heading. I would love it if they would do more anime properties like Grappler Baki, Berserk, Ninja Scroll, Guyver or Fist of the Northstar. Anything really unique would be a nice change. I'm tired of these rehashed productions and outlandish prices for articulated statues.

Ed Harris! wish hot toys came out with something else though.. but i reckon fans(kerberos) would be happy.

Wow is the license that expensive? I don't really see anything in the figure that warrants the $315 price.

I was wondering the same, the first figure in this series, the Predator was expensive also, maybe its just a "premium" line, kind of like buying the Midas and not getting alot considering its price.

Nice figure which I was thinking of getting but at that price point. I'm not so sure.

The pricing for this figure is definitely something:thud:
It's just like those European designer clothes where a plain t-shirt can cost you $300 & up...

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - Kerberos Panzer Jäger Collectible Figure (Official Specs + Pics)

I was hoping to see more accessories, oh well, I still love it! :drool

I want to put a cape on him, give him a flamberge and put an old school or other type of portrait on him to make him look like a WWI Dracula. This fan is pleased. Sorry for encouraging Hot Toys for those of you who are unhappy with the price point, but I got the Samurai Pred and he's pretty friggin awesome, so I'm hooked. Bring on AC#03

That looks incredible. Where can I find all the films and comic books for the Kerberos saga? I've looked online and there's absolutely zilch.

There's 2 live action film in Japanese. 1 talks about a junior officer looking for their leader, the other talks about what happened to the leader.

And then there's the Cartoon Jin-Roh, which is the only one worth watching. There's a couple of movies by the same director which has abit to do with Kerberos Sage, then there's a few radio drama all in Japanese.

There is 1 comic book called Kerberos Saga, in Japan there's a new version of it which is split into 2 volumes, not sure if there's an english version, it's more related to the live action, like a prequel to the live action.

Then there's a couple of art books about Jin-Roh & Panzer Cop.

There's 5 versions of Panzer Cop by Dragon, 7 versions of Kerberos Panzer Cop by Takara, 4 versions by Medicom, 1 pewter statue, 1 kaiyodo Jin-Roh figure, another 2 Kerberos revoltech figures, 2 kubricks, and Hot Toys version and that's about it. There's probably a garage kit.

I have no real interest in the subject matter but I think the design is really nice. I am on the fence for this. Looks like it has the possibility of being a really stellar piece. It would fit in well with my "designed" period military figures. Price is high, but still tempted anyway.

Thanks man. I managed to find an English version of Part 1 but not part 2. I've pretty much given up on finding The Red Spectacles but I'm not too bothered if it's not worth watching.
