Well, I think I have a Christmas Miracle to beat George Bailey, himself. This year’s SDCC kind of sucked for me because, while it absolutely floored me to see all of the cool stuff DCC was putting out for the animated line, it also reminded me how impossible my backlog was. Literally. 90% of my TAS collection was obtained at heavy discounts after spending months warming the pegs at local shops and I assumed the GCPD Rogue’s Gallery set would be no different. Particularly after seeing how decidedly sour people’s reactions to it were in places like this. Needless to say, I think we can all agree that was a very grave miscalculation.
Anyway, about two weeks ago, my buddy and co-worker texts me saying he saw an ad for a comic shop up north that had the set for a reasonable price. I was definitely surprised to see it listed at the original retail price of $175, but the thing that probably spurred me to action even more than that, causing me to drive nearly three hours on the highway in torrential rain (something I was prepared to do, anyway) was the fact that it was also on sale for $100 off. It was one thing to not only fill a very large gap in my collection and obtain a set that I’d been after for a while but could never justify in light of the exorbitant cost online. It’s another to walk out with it just in time for Christmas at a cool $75, though.
