I got what you meant. I was utilizing the concept of humor.

Ok, didn't get that the first time :)

Distance often makes everything look better. Note camera alters viewing sizes, by minifying the image, so that first picture is more like standing a decent distance away from your display cabinet if your not using an electronic device. If your standing in front of your cabinet, and viewing your figures through the camera on your phone, the likeness might be okay.

Bedot, agreed. I think its a fine figure, but a few videos online have shown side by side compares of past headsculpts, and the length of the face is noticeably different, and the nose shape is off. It doesn't take much with headsculpts to lose all sense of the original sculpt. This feels like a likeness SS would do.

Yes, HT can definitely do better.
I never saw Chris in this figure. It's like Wonder Woman: you know it's supposed to be her, but it just doesn't look like her.
But that distance shot actually made me think that the likeness is somehow there the first time.

Hot Toys has shown to do the great sculpts. But these are expensive figures that are only getting more expensive, and for me I want a very good figures with very good headsculpts. Yondu and Hela were great. JL Wonder Woman and IW Cap are examples of faces that shouldn't have made past HT internal review.

For some people, they just want solid 12" figures, with the likeness being negotiable. Me, I need a good likeness (if not eerily good) to enjoy a figure. Plus, its Captain America, he is going to have more figures guaranteed. I mean A4 cap figure might include him wielding Thor's hammer. That's what I am looking forward to.

Me too.

HT has the first reveal for Avengers 4 toys likely only a few months away, so they are getting out all the figure that will have new figures in 2019. To bad, because I think with some extra time this could have been a great figure.

LOL I was thinkin' folks had lost it 'coz IMO why would you mess with the sculpt you already had that was pretty popular? Just add some hair...but...

IW_Cap_sculpt_compare.jpg

Guess Cap had some plastic surgery while he was a fugitive. Chin, nose, ears. And a bad haircut in back:lol:lol:lol

OMG:rotfl A handsome Cap but to me looks like a 3rd party KO. And I can say maybe down the road I can pick up another one cheap, 'cept *genuine* Caps and parts are already selling for a premium on the 'bay. So sourcing an older head sculpt would cost $$$.

Keeping the PO on this guy tho - glad I have other Caps to represent. This is a version of Cap, but not THE Cap like my CW Cap. But hafta agree at this point - HT shouldn't have put this out, re the rising prices etc. I collect the Holy Trio of Cap/Bucky/Falcon plus BW/SW and random others, so the PO stays. But HT didn't do right by this release *going cheap in production w. sculpt and hair seam WTF*:thwak

I got into this hobby because I was blown away by how incredible the likeness was on their figures and the overall quality, which is also how I justify the pricing. But when the likeness/quality begins to dip and the price begins to climb, then what is my incentive for buying from HT?

The side profile comparison shot further shows just how inaccurate the head sculpt is. Also what the heck is up with the 2 separate pieces for the back of his hair? Can you adjust the eyes or something?

I really wanted this fig and it’s a shame I’m gonna have to pass because HT wanted to rush this out before A4. Sad! :gah:

Huh. Maybe the HT bean counters had decided more "classic" Caps are always gonna sell better and decided not to waste a lot of effort:dunno. Maybe churning out a few staffs as accessories is relatively cheap, and Cap didn't spend a lot of time in IW, so HT didn't spend a lot of time.

Which if true IMO is bad thinking. Heck, I picked up DS #1 partly because it's just such a great release - IMO has it all. Just hope they don't screw up Bucky in production:(. Does make you think about the dollar value tho:slap. It even crossed my mind to cancel - but - it's IW bearded Cap. More or less. Suppose HT will get an earful over this release which hopefully will have them turning out stellar IW2 Caps.

This side-to-side comparison is a tad misleading. The head on the RHS isn't in full profile like that of the IW Cap, as evidenced by the fact that we can see part of its right eyebrow. Also, the soul patch on the IW Cap is camouflaging the chiseled chin. Additionally, the lighting may be washing out some of his features as well. I thought the split screen view from the YouTube video (below) was quite encouraging, as that looked pretty close. The chin appeared to be elongated, but that seemed mostly due to shadows. The other good part of that view is it's a reminder that you can't see the Maginot Line on the back of his head. I can't explain that one away - it's just bizarre.

Geez, that def. shows the elongation of the face, and how that alters the shape of the lower face is huge. :banghead

I have issues with the headsculpt on the left, but the one on the right threw away the best parts.

But is the face really elongated? Everything seems to be proportioned the same until you reach the chin. We know the beard should definitely add a bit of length, but most of what I see in that photo appears to be shadow.

I think this is one that we'll need to have in hand under identical lighting conditions to judge properly.

Yeah i'm not sure about the face being elongated. If he has a beard on the new sculpt obviously it's going to be longer, and I don't see any skin, only hair.

I think it's just the beard, not elongated. People's faces look longer when they have facial hair.

Admittedly, with how good I saw IW, all these releases are tempting, this Cap too.

The one most appealing to me is the concept cap, however he looks less bulky compared to those two, not surprising as it utilizes a DP body with bigger shoulders.

Also, should I cave in and decide to nab this Cap, I'd feel inclined to put a helmeted sculpt and view him as 'battle damaged' LOL

I think it's the nose and lower half of the face. Shorter nose....the ghosting here is the left sculpt overlaid on top of IW...

Eyes in profile can be matched. But Cap #1 has more distance from under nose to top of lip; features are sharper, more distinct chin and nose, and the ears are slightly larger and place differently. IW Cap it's like the lower part of the face was kinda pushed in. Maybe it was compensating for the added bulk of sculpted facial hair but compensated too much.:dunno

If i'm gonna be honest I think you're looking into the headsculpt a little much. Looking at a figure on the shelf you aren't gonna be picking out the nose shortened by a fraction of a mm, nor an ear that's scaled a fraction of an mm smaller. Although these figures are expensive, I think if you like this look for cap, go for it. If not, don't, but I don't think those miniscule differences are going to be any deal breaker unless you like to get close enough to smell your figures on display.

Agreed. It just doesn't look like Chris Evans. Let's move on.
