First off.. I can't believe how much it feels like the day after Christmas this morning... Kind of that downer you get because all the excitement is over
Anyways
What I loved.
Thanos - Easily the best part of the film.. As Jye Pointed out it was amazing CGI with an amazing performance. He was such a threatening presence. Having him make easy work of the Hulk and easily handling Thor really showed the audience that this was no ordinary villain.
Captain America / Falcon / Black Widow reveal with the Avengers theme - Goosebumps all over my arms.. Loved it!
Thanos' Black Order especially Ebony Maw - He would have been a great villain in any Marvel film. The Black Order was cool also but Ebony was the best by far.
The overall feel of the film - The film had a feeling of dread from the beginning.. Our hero's never get a chance to have any sort of real victory. It is just hit after hit from Thanos. Perfect IMO. Really had a downer feel.
Killing Loki - It was a proper send off.. And I really hope it sticks as it would cheapen the film.
Thor joining the Wakanda fight - In many ways this was Thor's movie. He had lost the most and got the "Yes" moment at the Wakanda battle a few times. Great stuff.
Spider-man screen time -Nice surprise having Spidey be in the whole film and not just a glorified cameo.
Vision's Second Death - tuning back time just to kill him again... Great stuff
Nobody knew that Black Panther was going to be the huge movie it was - And because of that they did not try making this film about Black Panther.
The Balls of Marvel - To make a superhero movie that is not really about the hero's but about the Villain. To hold back the way they did. To not allow the Hero's any major hero moments... It all works.. It's all a perfect set up.
What was OK
No major action scenes stood out - Even though none of the action was really a highlight of the MCU, I think there is a reason for this.. More on that later.
Star Lord's emotional attack - I get why he had to attack Thanos at that specific moment.. But it just made him seem stupid. There was probably a better way to do all of that.
What was bad
Thor, Groot, and Rocket's journey to forge a new weapon for Thor.. All of that was pretty boring. When they got to the forging planet there was a whole other subplot that took place that was just so unneeded.. Guess it was written that way so Thor could be on screen more.
Overall I thought it did exactly what it wanted to. I don't think this film was made to be GREAT... That comes later. It will become GREAT with the 2nd part. This was all about setting up Thanos as a Bad ass and giving our hero's a real defeat.
I think its these reasons that there is no stand out action scene.. Our hero's are not allowed to shine. So how can there be that "Heroic" moment and because of this the action was more about losing.. Every time.
As a Hulk fan I did not mind how little he was used... I really believe he will get a chance to shine in the next film just like the rest of our hero's... My theory is Black Widow is either killed or almost killed in front of Banner and we will get a major brawl. I could be wrong but something has got to bring the Hulk out. Perhaps not BW but maybe Cap or Stark.
Now I will say this.. If the 2nd film fails deliver it will hurt this film. If its great it will enhance this film. It really is just a part one.. I have trouble even giving it a rating because it is just half a movie. Which again is great Balls by Marvel. Granted its been done before but IMO this whole film was a great big set up for a larger story and I love it for that. As a stand alone it has some issues. As the first part of much bigger story its about perfect. Does that make sense :LOL
I am sure there are things I am not thinking of.. It is a lot to digest... Time to go back and read other reviews now
