Just saw it.

**** feels like a complete producer movie, bunch of check-boxes put together, at least I hope it is, because if it's not, and this actually had some sort of artistic intention, and this guy is gonna direct MGS, then that movie is DOA.

Everybody is in this for the money, not a single good performance, director has no style, camera work is terrible, cinematography in general is tacky and detached, ****ing Michael Bay is much better than this, characters are inconsistent and inauthentic, everything about this is phony, including the period, they try so hard to make you feel you're in NAM and this is how it comes across.

Not even the action is good, this movie has nothing, not a hint of suspense, nor thrill, """humor""" fell flat.

Past half of it I found myself >> constantly, and by the end, with the post credit scene, I just sighed, way to ruin a perfectly good series of Godzilla movies, maybe this series has a chance but not with this director/production team.

Give it a ****ing 3.

Pacific Rim, Transformers, Godzilla 2014 and Jackson's version are much better.

Didn't even get into the CGI because it's pretty much on par with everything contemporary.

I have to say, I'm a little pissed that I spent all day at work with a little down time to snug fit a movie, for this... I rarely ever want to turn off my brain for a movie, and even with my brain on just enough to maintain vital bodily functions, this movie still bummed me down.

Just read your review Jye, pretty much the same feelings as me huh? :lol

Kong Skull Island > Jurassic World lol
I don't know, they're both ****cakes, they're both producers' attempt at soulless franchise building, and they're no fun even as turn your brain off bro-kino.

Bryce Dallas Howard > that other chick tho.

This is one of them movies made for the Chinese market.

Pilot's line though, is that a monkey lol
:lol

Pilot we were supposed to feel bad for when he was killed.

I'm hoping I can walk into Best Buy and pick up the steelbook. My local Best Buy has been pretty good about that.

That's my plan, I'm going to Best Buy for the steelbook, assuming it's the most robust features version, I care more about content than case, but the steelbook looks like a great case if it has what I want inside.

Both Kong and JW suck.

Kong's crappy writing makes Wonder Woman look like a god damned shakespearean tyrannosaurus.

I would never defend Kong or Jurassic World as masterpieces of film certainly, but for me, both are very fun and entertaining to watch, I don't cringe at dialogue or get overly bored for the most part, and I get lost in a world of wild creatures that are fun to watch. I really like the skullcrawler designs and attacks, they're a cool new monster in the realm of kaiju.

Because the human characters were so poorly handled I needed to fall back on Kong's monster adversary to save the movie for me and that is where you and I differ, those skull crawlers were lazy creature designs just so they could save the budget to be used on Kong's hair.

Skull Crawlers will be as quickly forgotten as the kaiju from Pacific Rim.

Well, I would agree that Pacific Rim's kaiju would be forgettable were it not for NECA toys, the coolest designs either got next to no screen time or were obscured too much to ever really appreciate, that movie put too much focus on the jaegers and didn't balance with the kaiju enough, be curious if that changes in PR2.

I can agree that as characters, the skullcrawlers were lacking so if you put all your hopes on their contribution, then yeah, you'd be let down. I enjoyed the cast, they weren't to the level of say the Aliens colonial marines or Dutch's team in Predator, but for me at least, they were a more enjoyable collective of characters to follow on a journey then a lot of groups in creature films of the past 10 years or so.

I love Kong and was thoroughly please with what we got of him in this movie so perhaps that helps me to look past the flaws more, but I also, for the most part, like how Godzilla was handled in the 2014 film and that helps me look past the issues with that movie as well.

For me it all comes down to the titular monster, if I enjoy that enough, then getting through a flawed rest of the film is easier or even not feel like they are flaws.

Did you know that there's a "skull crawler" in the original 1933 King Kong?

That lizard thing that climbs the vine to get at the hero after Kong shakes the log -- everyone assumes its just a giant lizard thing but if you watch the first shot, it is the same 'tripod' design as the Skull Crawler (no back legs). I thought that was a nice (albeit unnecessary) tribute.

Yes, the Skull Island Skullcrwaler design is a hybrid of the simple form of the '33 Kong creature and design elements from the director's favorite anime.

I like how they're a mix of lizard and snake and their attacks combine both, like how it wraps around Kong but also has arms to fight with while doing so.

Most of the audience under 30 seeing this movie probably haven't even watched the '33 film, let alone remember a 1 minute shown creature :lol

I'm looking forward to rewatching on blu ray next week. Movie was average but I have a sweet spot for monster flicks and I know this will be watched many times at home. I too thought the design for the skull crawlers was nothing to write home about but then again if you step back and see the big picture of this new Monster Universe and all the monsters it will poses the SC might just be small minions!!
