Can you explain how you have opened the holes beetween the teeth....
Just used a very sharp hobby (Exacto) knife. Same way I carved out the chin triangle. There may be a tiny dremel attachment I'm not aware of that would make it easier.

Re: Sturtrup Custom Vader - airfreshener wip

Sturtrup, I think you've got ANH Vader down pretty well, so I think that my first air freshener head will find it's home on the ESB/ROTJ Vader.

I couldn't view your pics from work. But I'm glad I can now at home. Your Vader looks great Phoenix0A.

Yeah, it's tricky but the exacto works. The teeth and nose was pretty tricky to remove on mine.

I'm really trying to see if I can salvage the dome. Considering casting back section of my HT dome and inserting that into the gap where the freshner plug was. The dome it comes with looks better than the hasbro dome I think.

Glad I only bought the one air freshner Vader - this has been a lot of work.

Nah, I'm just messing with you. Vader will just always be looking upwards to hide that inaccuracy :lol

Sturtrup - you're right, we still need a decent (and cheap) dome option. The air freshener helmet, while having that big clip in the back, is decent. It looks like they basically took the HT helmet and shrunk the upper dome a little. It makes the skirt flare look wrong.

Airfreshener dome, modded Hasbro dome (I messed this up a little), and HT dome, from top to bottom:

How did you widen the bottom triangle - scalpel? The plastic is thicker than I thought it'd be.

Yes, exacto blade. The thick plastic was actually a saving grace since it didn't allow me get too crazy and bugger it up in my haste.

Do let us know is you manage to salvage the air freshener dome. I've yet to come up with a solution.

Yeah, will prob give it shot next week. No matter what, it's a total pain. The only other thing I could thing of was gluing some styrene on the inner side then filling/sculpting/sanding from outside - not much fun, and the strip you'd have to add.

I sanded out inside the nose hole a bit to enlarge it but I'm mulling the micro-surgery on the outside of the nose - it sort of has three rounded "points" that need a gentle sanding but it's tricky for sure.

Still thinking about whether this should be kept ANH or if I should try for ESB. Needs to be repainted no matter what.

Bummer they left off the two little sculpted dashes below the eyes. Almost seems like they made changes so HT couldn't come after them.

Guys, we have to say the truth, all this work is the funniest part...

(to say all the truth, I don't need a vader helmet, I'd never change the mr H one that I have, I don't need a second line Vader, I don't need an esb vader helmet, I'll surely put a mr H one on my esb Vader, so I'm only enjoying my time with something that I've never done before. Thank you guys for all the indications about every single work to do.)

Absolutely, these air freshener projects to me are just a fun way to work on my skills without fear of ruining an expensive head. I may just wind up making the ultimate vader fridge magnet using the air freshener dome.

Sturtrup, you're right. You don't need that head. I'll gladly take it off your hands:). Good job on carving out the grill.

Anh paint scheme finished...

Re: Sturtrup Custom Vader - airfreshener wip

Oooooooh. That's looking sharp.
Thanks man!

What do you use for the grills and vents? Im thinking about doing the same :D
As described by Phoenix0A I've used a very sharp exacto knife. To say the truth, I've done a better work with the first attempt on the anh mask. But I think that I can fix it with some putty.

Re: Sturtrup Custom Vader - airfreshener wip

This is such an excellent thread. Just pulled the trigger on a pair of the air freshener heads!

Re: Sturtrup Custom Vader - airfreshener wip

Quick question, when people are spraying the tamiya clear colors, are they sold in an aerosol can? Or through an airbrush? I've only ever seen them sold in a paint pot.
