Yup, been playing with mine for about an hour now, putting everything on (Sam's bag with accessories was kinda a time consumer...) Really actually love Frodo! I'm having a hard time on deciding how I want to pose and display him. I really love the green cloak and the natural lay and feel of it, but I'm tempted to use the same clock as the other three have. Any word if there will be custom cloaks for the other three hobbits? I'd really like Pippins purple cloak.

Sam I'm still disappointed with the likeness. He's great for a more Book version Sam, but to pass off as Sean Astin's Sam is a stretch. Hoping we get a custom or even another Sam in Orc armor with a better sculpt but I doubt it.

Also I think it's worth noting that I was really bummed after seeing Sting is plastic. After getting Aragorn and Gandalf with diecast weapons a plastic Sting is a let down.

Was in the middle of taking pics and my phone died. So I'll get back to that shortly.

Very nice! :clap

What is the environment piece you have under the Frodo and Sam? Is that a modified Batman DX stand?
Thanks! Yes it's a customized DX12 Stand. Originally was used for my custom Gandalf until the Asmus one came out.
These are great pics! Making it very difficult to resist Gandalf, Frodo & Sam. And that Aragon is a work of art.

Thank you! Asmus Aragorn is a great base to work magic with. Definitely needs the hair mod to add to the likeness imo.

Wonderful pictures...

You make Frodo look good. I wish I could find one alone.

Also, as others have said, that Aragorn is fantastic. Best I've seen from that one picture. You just sold me on the hair mod... though I doubt I can pull it off. Futzing is one thing, hair... that's something else.

Thanks sir! Keep checking Ebay and Toy Anxiety, a solo Frodo will probably show up at some point, but really, it might be better to get the set and sell Sam if you don't want him...

Yeah the Aragorn really needs the hair mod. Mine I just put layers on top of the sculpted. It gets the job done and it's not as labor intensive as doing the full hair. :D

Got mine tonight and had a little time to put them together.

My general impressions? Really great!

It's an impressive set! And a really great deal for two figures with a fair amount of accessories! (Two hobbits with lots of complicated clothing for the same price as one space raccoon.)

I'm honestly shocked at how much I like them both. Like a lot of us, I've been watching the photos of the sculpts in this thread with some trepidation and disappointment, but ... and I know this is a cliche around these parts ... in hand they don't bother me at all!

Yes, Frodo's face is a little too angular and has too heavy a brow ... he looks a little more like strung-out Frodo from the end of RotK than fresh-faced Frodo from FotR. And yes, the likeness is probably in the 70-80% range. But overall I really dig him!

And Sam ... I'm kind of astonished but ... I actually like the Sam sculpt more than Frodo. Yes, his neck is bizarrely thin, but if you futz his cape correctly, you'll never be able to see it. It takes a while to assemble him, but once you get all the pots and pans threaded onto his backpack (which is kind of a pain -- bring your tweezers), he looks terrific! I don't think they changed anything with the sculpt, but in-hand I'd put the likeness in the 85-90% range. Which REALLY surprised me. Granted, all of this is entirely subjective and no two collectors seem to agree on this kind of thing, but that's where I'd put him.

The real star of this release is the cut and sew work. The outfits are fantastic. The challenge with LOTR figure costumes has always been all the layers. But despite all the layers, these guys never look bulky. Asmus has chosen fabrics that drape and hang very nicely while keeping them super thin and in scale. Really nice finishing work, too. Mine didn't have a single errant thread that needed trimming. And there are plenty of really nice touches that you probably will never see or notice in your display, like the suspenders, the super tiny buttons, or the intricate (and accurate) tailoring on Frodo's flap-front pants.

Beautiful work all around, Asmus. Thank you! :clap

While Sam has his cooking utensils, I think Frodo's best accessory is the One Ring. (I had to get out my magnifying glass and do a bit of micro-surgery on the chain which had come apart in the box, but I got it sorted and it looks great.) The scale of the ring and chain is really impressive -- it's all real metal, and incredibly fine and delicate. The scale looks perfect.

Overall, I'm really happy with this set. Sure, both likenesses could be better, but this is a really nice set. Fully satisfied. It isn't the big (or even small) step backward we all feared from the initial photos.

I know it's a tired old cliche, but these really do look better in hand than any of the pictures I've seen.

Anyhow, those are my two cents. Hope everybody else is as happy with them as I am!

Good balanced review Bucky Underbelly, i had the same feelings about the set. They are incredible value for money and the best lotr to date.

Got mine in yesterday...haven't had a chance to open them but I'm excited to get em out now! I said the same thing about Merry and Pippen...looks so much more impressive in hand. I was hoping these would be the same and looks like that will likely be the consensus so I'm glad I picked up the set.

Great pics guys!:clap
