I agree about his Silver Surfer sculpts. Even the mini bust is nice. The museum pose is classic, but I prefer the action pose. Very dynamic.

Can't go wrong with any of them. They all look good. I have both the museum pieces and the action one. They are both as good as it gets when it comes to Surfer sculpts.

Oh yes indeed I have his action Surfer going up against action Thor with the Loki statue on throne behind them with the Silver Surfer #4 comic displayed. That comic is what Randy used to recreate Loki holding the goblet brooding about how to use Surfer to beat his brother. What I meant to say was what Randy did in regards to the entire supporting cast of Thor that was made and may never truly be made again. Never say never but he basically gave us most everyone but Jane, Sif, Malekith, Balder and Heimdall. He even made a Mangog bust that is out of the park and the second to last piece he did was Hela and it is some of the best work I've ever seen. But to me the Surtur bust and action Thor were his best Thor pieces. Odin isn't too shabby. Oh and dont forget the museum Beta Ray Bill you can put next to classic and Modern Thor statues.

Come back Randy we need your vision and craft.

I loved my Bowens but with nothing new on the horizon it made them very attainable, which is great, but there's also a limit on your collection.

An update for any Bowen fans out there. It seems due to Randy's divorce, Bowen Designs will be out of the statue game for at least 5 years. He'll apparently be doing freelance work during his 5 year hiatus. It seems that if he reforms the company before 5 years pass, his ex-wife would receive a large chunk of the profits that are generated so Randy won't be able to produce statues under his own company until 2021. Damn, for Bowen fans, that is a long ways off.

For whatever reason, the link doesn't seem to be working. Here's a part of the interview I copied off of a post by PeepsChicken over at SM:

CCF: Do you ever think in coming back to the Market? Why and how (doing super-heroes or a more authorial work)?

RB (Randy Bowen): Yes, I do think about coming back into the statue industry… But it will be likely in a different capacity than before. I was recently divorced, and the terms of my divorce prevent me from utilizing the same business model as previously.

In other words; if I have a statue company that sells and distributes and manufacturers, then I would need to pay a large chunk of the profits to my ex-wife.

This is for a period of five years. So until the year 2021, I'll likely just do sculpting for other companies. And then, after that, I'll be poised for the rebirth of Bowen Designs at some point.

Big thanks to Peeps for finding the interview and posting the info.

Wow 2021? Way too long.

Too true. I'm just wondering which companies he may do some freelance work for. I'd love to see him do fully sculpted PFs for SSC. In particular, I'd kill to see Randy do a classic 1/4 HULK, Cap, Thor, and Silver Surfer PF for SSC. He always did a GREAT job sculpting those characters.

Crazy to think that something so personal such as a divorce with their spouse could potentially affect many others who are in this hobby.

Maybe he will just mass produce new figures in his basement and mass release them all in 5 years!

Man what a crappy divorce settlement. Feel bad for him. Would love to see him do some pieces for Sideshow.

Don't feel bad for him. He's set for life. In the interview he said he's set for life financially. He doesn't have to work another day of his life if he doesn't want to. That's something, considering the staggering amount of $$$ he must have turned over to his ex-wife in the divorce. Whatever Randy does going forward, he'll be doing what he wants to. Even if it's just sculpting freelance. Either way, I'm looking forward to whatever he has planned so long as it includes Marvel or DC sculpts.

The thing I like most about Randy's sculpts is that they are very comic accurate. Randy's sculpts look like they've been ripped straight from the pages of a comic book. Seeing him do 1/4 scale work for SSC would be nothing short of amazing.
