True. Forgot about the holiday, so not sure. They aren't Federal or anything so who knows. Point being, it sounds like many here are reporting the issue regarding the thumbs. I suspect I'll be doing the same. Will they expect everyone to return them? They can't very well send out replacements, since all of them are crap. Will they offer a small amount off to keep them? Like I said, curious.

I am too. I sent a message forgetting they might not be open but at least it's sent.
I don't think the standard "we'll give you $15-$25 credit" is going to make up for this or help me unsee it.

This issue is why I have a hands-off policy on this release. I can see why the community will be up in arms over it.

You really do have your finger on the pulse. I hope Sideshow grasp the extent of the problem and reach out a hand to customers.

My 3PO is about four feet away from me. I'm sitting on my couch looking up at it and I don't notice the thumbs at all. Just a nice 3PO standing with R2 on my shelf along with the rest of the OT figures. For me, I don't care about the thumbs.

Anyone break them off and reglue them? Wonder if TA is going to part one out? Might be able to buy some extra hands and practice on those. I am curious how it would look even if I'm not going to do it.

I actually did okay as far as the flashing goes. There is some, but it's far from a big distraction when enjoying the figure. I have the same hands as everyone else though.

Any tips of safely removing the head to get to the batteries? The instructions say not to grip the head, but I can't see any other way of doing it. I can't seem to get the arm off either, just so nervous touching this figure for fear of breaking something. I can't seem to get the arms to move at the elbows, those little pistons seem so fragile and even just carefully attempting to move the elbow is straining against them.

Otherwise, mine seems okay, I think. The inner piston on the left arm was disconnected at the top, didn't notice that on first inspection so it might have happened when I was trying to move the elbow a little, but it seemed to just clip back into place. Paint and weathering are okay for me and I probably wouldn't have even noticed the flashing on the knees if it hadn't been mentioned here. Mine has what looks like some flashing at the bottom of the front of the neck which is a little unsightly and there's some spots almost like flashing on the right side of the head where the back and front halves meet but I'm not sure if that's just meant to be weathering detail. They aren't present on the left side.

Has a bit of weight to it, about what I expected, and thankfully doesn't have the cheap, flimsy, hollow feel that R2 did and feels more like a premium figure. As with the last few Sideshow figures I've bought though, I have mixed feelings about it overall mostly because of the poor value for money. With shipping it was almost $380 AUD which is the same price that the HT Vader was available for on pre-order here before it sold out. Sets a new bar for the most overpriced figure in my collection but that's partly just down to the lousy exchange rate at the moment.

I'll be emailing Sideshow about the thumbs issue too. I can live with it but at the same time I don't think it's good enough for a figure at this price point.

Mine just arrived. Will open tomorrow. Hope he arrived altogether. The shipper had more clearance between it and the artbox this time around, which probably resulted in more movement during transport. Fingers crossed:pray:

I really don't see how they expect a person to not grab the head to get to the batteries. I just very carefully wiggled it back and forth until it came loose. There's just not enough to grip onto to take it off by the neck unless your hands are way small.

im glad I passed on this to many issues. thumbs pistons breaking off flash left over from production hard time trying to install the batteries because of neck concerns. wow that`s a lot of problems for a figure. I bought the tamashii some years ago and im fine with that. it`s a nice figure but to many QC issues and for the price they want there should not be any maybe minor. but to each is there own I guess

Anybody going to wait for a HT version..you know it's coming

HT Vader proto looked super weird and the release was touch and go for a long time, so I'd love to follow a wonky HT 3PO sculpt for nearly a year with breath held that final release will be better. It worked with Vader and Han (well, sort of,) not so well with Ben even with a major v2.0 sculpt change, so sure - I'm up for a HT 3PO.:yess:

Here SSC thought things would be overlooked because they chose to do weathered, dented 3PO vs. Tamashii's pristine/shiny look.

Ben's sculpt change was pretty minor IMO. What we first saw at Toy Soul is basically what I see on my shelf (with less bright lights perhaps). Han and Vader's dome seem to be the only major changes. It's a fun ride though.

I will wait patiently for HT ver as well. But knowing them, they'd prolly start with the TFa ver with red arm as they can't be stepping on SS' toes by releasing the OT ver.

Thanks. Following your advice, I managed to get mine off with some careful wiggling, trying to put some pressure on the neck and not just pull on the head. I've got fairly narrow fingers but still found it difficult. On the plus side, the light up eyes look great, Sideshow did a very good job there. And they still look good when unlit although it might have been nice to have a 2nd non-electronic head with them painted as lit up.

I think it depends on the pose too and I'm guessing it's not possible to have him gripping the comlink, making that a useless accessory. But I agree, it's not going to spoil my enjoyment of the figure and I doubt I'll even notice it most of the time. Still, it's annoying that they could get something like this wrong when they did such a good job with so many other aspects of it. No figure is perfect, but this is a bit too glaring of an issue to completely ignore IMO. It's just one more thing that's amiss, like them being stingy about not providing a suitable base to accommodate the pair.

Understandable, as you said to each their own. I don't know anything about the Tamashii one, hadn't even heard of it until I started reading this thread recently, so I can't comment on that or compare them. If I already had another high-end 3PO, I might have skipped the Sideshow one too or at least had second thoughts about getting it. But I'm sure there's many of us who have been waiting for a Sideshow 3PO since the line began, so it's nice to finally have one after so many years, especially since we've had R2 for a while now. Even with these issues, it still makes a brilliant display piece. Anyway, hopefully HT will do a nice version at some stage and provide a third option, although their SW figures don't seem to be without issues either.

Yes, thanks Coco! So far so good....'cept for the thumbs. Been really questioning my "buy em all" approach to SS ever since HT entered the fray. Might just have to settle for the Tamashii, especially since I paid SS retail price for it. If they do the business as usual deal with this, that's gonna make me consider just walking away from it and let the Tamashii be enough.
Thanks again

Or SS might have one in the works already. Just a new head front panel, chest panel, abdomen with the new wiring positions and just painting the left arm red and they're all set.:wink1:

I was fortunate to have all pistons intact, I'm yet to check the flashing that's been reported though. Like all/most others I have the reverse jointed thumbs. With all the issues of delicacy it made the head and arm removal quite awkward. Here's a quick snap of him and 'ol mate.IMG_20160118_190657 - Copy.jpg

Got the new Sideshow Threepio in today. Was it worth the wait? I can honestly say that I am quite underwhelmed, with the quality of the paint app/weathering and also the arm/elbow articulation well under expectations. At least mine didnt break (yet)!

How does this compare to the Tamashii? I'm not Sideshow hater, but In my view, there is absolutely no contest whatsoever. The Tamashii is better than the Sideshow is pretty much every way possible.

Video review and comparison coming soon!

My main issues are:

- Seriously, how the **** are you supposed to take the head off?!? They say dont pull on the head or ears, but pull on the neck. Well, there's no room to get your fingers in there to pull on the neck!!!

- Elbow articulation is just made for breakages, if not now then in the future. The pistons do to slide in their tracks smoothly, so my left arm cannot bend all the way. And you can clearly see the piston itself flexing with the pressure and you move the arm.

- Thumb articulation just seems wrong. It cant seem to bend properly and I am not going to force it to break.

- Gold paint app has scuffs and marks that are not intentional weathering, but just issues during manufacture.

- Weathering in parts is pretty bad eg. one area on my left knee you can clearly see someone's frickin fingerprint in the damn weathering paint!!
