Strange that they can produce all these intricately detailed and painted models of the Enterprise and Serenity with probably hundreds of parts, and yet a 1/6 figure with a fairly simple looking outfit seems to have thrown them completely for a loop. Lol

Most of the detailed models they have made in the past have been done in the US correct? That was why they were so expensive. With this Mal figure they are getting them made in Chinese factories and that is where the issue is.

I put my name on the mailing list for when the figure would be available for purchase. Has anyone gotten an e-mail? It was said they wouldn't start selling them until they were very close to having them in their warehouse but wasn't that supposed to happen about now according to QMX at SDCC?

Yes, the Artisan models where (and I assume still are) made by an FX company in the USA. My Serenity was made by this guy: John Eblan - IMDb

I even have one of the Firefly name plates for Serenity with his name and signature on it.

I just spoke to Andy at QMX and got an update.

It's important to Andy that everyone know that the following info is still tentative, but it's clear that he's really working hard and sparing no expense in trying to bring us the best 1/6 Mal possible.

Mal is done, and the body and outfit came out fantastic. But I'm not happy with the head. So I'm in the process of on-boarding a second factory just to do the head. It'll probably be the same factory doing Picard for us, which is one of the nicest heads I've seen in a while.

To save time I'm having them made, polybagged and shipped to our warehouse. What we'll probably do then is ship to customers the original figure plus the replacement head, so they'll end up with two heads. Then they can decide which they'd rather use (or maybe use one and repaint the other).

As soon as I have this all locked down we'll let everyone know what's up. Just want to have everything confirmed before we announce anything.

Will the replacement head be available only for customers that buy directly from Qmx or will I also get it if I buy from local retailer?

Excellent question - my po is locally. But I'm hoping and guessing yes, it wouldn't make sense if not all came with both heads.

I think it's safe to assume that if there is a second head it will come with all figures no matter where you have ordered it. Not doing so would undo the goodwill of doing another head in the first place.

Happy to finally hear from QMX on this and that they're working to fix it--though I'm afraid this will ruin the chance to get this in hand before the end of the year. Hopefully they're getting all the kinks worked out with Mal so the rest of the line goes smoother.

Are they even still planning to do the other characters? You would think we would have seen some preview pics by now if there was anything more in the pipeline.
There is a preview of Jayne here somewhere.
